Alice and Beatrice are sisters who attended the same university and even graduated the same year due to the delay Alice had in school. After they both graduated from the university, they combined their money to build up a grocery store so that they will not have to start looking for jobs.
”Beatrice, I feel we should start a business with the little money we have and we can make it grow from there. Do you think this is a good idea?” Alice said to her sister.
”It’s a perfect idea but I don’t have an idea of the business we can venture into,” Beatrice said.
”I think a grocery business will be better and that’s because people make use of them everyday so it is possible we make daily sales,” Alice responded back to her sister and they started to make plans. They both had one thousand, five hundred dollars for the business. They rented a shop, furnished it and they began the business and things were going well. They were so lucky that they began to have customers right from the onset of the business.
After three months of running the business, Alice brought up the idea of always running a stock count at the end of every month.
”Beatrice, don’t you think we should run a stock count at the end of each month so we can see if we’re progressing or not,” Alice said to her sister and Beatrice took it as a very good idea.
”Ooh that’s a good idea. I was even thinking about it but I felt it isn’t needed. I’m happy you mentioned it now and we will surely start it,” Beatrice said that and they started the stock count the following week which was the end of the month.
Their first stock count was a successful one and they even made profit. They decided to spoil themselves on that day so they stepped out and went to enjoy themselves.

They did this for four months on a stretch but they could not continue because of fear. After the fourth stock count, they got a POS machine, paid their house rent and paid some bills all in one month.
The goods in the shop began to reduce gradually and they didn’t say anything about it.
They both knew the financial expenses they had in a few weeks back was what drained their business but they didn’t want to accept the truths in their hearts and they didn’t want to talk about it.
Whenever it’s time to go to the market, they always split what they are supposed to buy into two instead of buying one as they used to and that was because they no longer had enough fund to run the business.
One day, their mother came to say hi and to also see how her daughters have been managing the budget but she was so disappointed at her kids because they have failed to make the business flourish as it should. Instead, the goods in the shop are reducing.
”Can you people see how you have crumbled this business? What are you spending money on that you can’t even know your limit when it comes to spending? Do you even think it is possible to recover very fast? I’m ashamed of you both,” their mother said to them feeling very bad about the business they could not handle well.
”Mum, we’re very sorry and it’s not our fault…,” Alice was trying to convince her mum to tell her about the crazy expenses they had in a few days but their mum was not ready to listen.
”Shut up! If it’s not your fault, then whose?,” their mother said while feeling very bad for the business and she advised them to run a stock count so she will know how much loss they are running.

Since they both ignored the elephant in the room, their mother helped them reveal it and when they ran a stock count. After the stock count, they found out that they were running an eight hundred and seventy five dollar loss. Their mother also joined them in running the stock count and she knew how much money they started the business with.
Their mother pitied them and gave them some money to revive the business and ever since then, they have always taken their stock count seriously and they never spend too much money that was capable of making the business crumble.
Their business also flourished just as their mother expected.
