Hello great friends of hive, happy weekend to you all.
“What’s the weirdest thing you believed was true when you were a kid” of all the weekend prompts, this particular one caught my attention and made me remember a lot of childhood memories that I couldn’t help but laugh.
Back when I was a kid, I lived with my grandma and with lots of my cousins, it was quite fun because I was told so many things especially during moonlight tales.

While I was a kid there were so many weird things I believed were true but now I understand better, those things never existed.
When I was a kid, I was told that if you eat any fruit and swallow the seed it would grow on you head and you would be carrying a live tree on your head while people would pluck the fruits when they see you. I don’t know how many people heard this but to me then it was all true.
One day while returning from the farm with my cousins, we were eating African apple, in my dialect it is called ‘udara’. So while eating, I mistakenly swallowed the seed, ohh chim! I screamed and cried that I swallowed the seed of the fruits.
My cousins made everything worse for me, they started laughing at me, they told me that the African apple would grow on my head and people would come to pluck the fruits from my head. I ask them how long would the tree grow and die, they said the tree would remain on my head till I die and nobody would want to marry me that way.
I cried the living day out of me, when we reached home I refused to eat, when my grandma asked me why, I told her what happened and she laughed, she told me it was true. When I cried out loudly and refused to eat she later told me that it was all a lie, that she wouldn’t let anything like that happen to me.
I refused to believe her, I thought she was only trying to be nice to me so I would forget and eat the food. I refused to eat oo, I went inside I was sobbing and praying till I finally slept without knowing. The next day, my cousins kept reminding me but they now painted it better which made it relieving.
They said that when it grows, I shouldn’t let anyone pluck it instead I would be plucking the fruits to sell in the market and with that I would have lots of money lol.
Another weird thing I was told was hissing at night, so my grandma told us not to be hissing at night, that if we hiss at night we are calling on snakes to come around.
She says when we hiss that snakes would definitely come and would be hiding around, so every night my cousins and I would avoid hissing so that we won’t see snakes lol. All those things were lies well-crafted and made to believe.
Another weird one was looking at your face in the mirror at night, I was told if you look at your face in the mirror at night you would see a ghost, a very bad one and we were warned to avoid using the mirror at night. But now I use my mirror anytime of the day and nothing of such has ever happen, there were all lies.
All these had instilled fear in our minds but little did I know that there were well crafted lies, lies.
It’s funny how I believed all those weird things back when I was a kid.
