The more I think of it all, the more irate and likewise despondent I become.
You know there's a difference between getting news of unfortunate happenings taking place in a far different location whereby you can only but imagine the sorrows of those involved and wish them well.
Than being present in the place of occurrence either affected or yet to be, but totally helpless to a devastating degree.
Of course my country isn't just all bad and no good. It just happens that her perils are way too overwhelming to simply turn a blind eye to.
Nigeria, tagged as the giant of Africa embodies and equally encourages the occurrence of a whole lot of distressing events and the previous year was quite a unique one. In a negative sense.
Literally each of the twelve months in the last year came by with one cause of sorrow or the other.
Ranging from the tragedy of the girl child popularised in the case of the girl Ochanya, down to the banditry activities in both mosques and churches, brutal killings on the country's independence day, kidnappings... And trust me, the list goes on.
Answering the weekend question which asks if I ever hate my country, oh yes I do.
How on earth am I supposed to be chilling in a country that only but requires me to walk about in the broad daylight looking over my shoulders?
The rate of insecurity is baffling, freedom to work, earn and utilise one's earnings isn't laid-back, access to basic amenities is limited and the government's interference and drawback to the activities of various sectors of the country just adds more salt to the wound.
The country records more and more violence, loss of all kinds, illegal and deep-rooted corrupt acts which are gradually becoming a norm, deaths either caused by disasters, murders or suicide on daily basis, cases of missing persons flying all round, within all age brackets.
And the last thing I wish is for these disheartening episodes to keep rolling in. Nothing but a turnaround, is all I want.
