Video Coming To Leo

in LeoFinance5 months ago

The hits keep on coming.

We got some more exciting news about LEO this week. A few major announcements have hit this week which should excited everyone involved with Leo.

We wrote about the concept of collateralized loans using $LEO. This is something the Maya team is building out and since Leo has a liquidity pool, it can be used.

Today, during the AMA, we got another piece of news.

LeoVideo Is Going To Go Live

Over the next week or so, we should see videos live on Leo. By this I mean people will be able to upload full videos as blog posts through Leo and LeoShorts via Threads.

This is something we discussed a great deal in the past. One of my core views is video is crucial. When we look at the valuation of different media, the market caps of companies related to video far exceed that of other media. In fact, it far outpaces gaming.

It is what Leo wants to be involved with.

We know the success of YouTube. When it comes to shorts, TikTok is still dominant. Looking at the numbers present us with a mind blowing situation.

Here is the number of users.

https://inleo.io/threads/view/taskmaster4450le/re-leothreads-3mqjqdgb

You Tube is near 2.5 billion while TikTok is around 1.25 billion. That is a lot of activity.

Where the numbers get crazy is the amount of time people spend on these sites.

In asking Groq what this translates to just for TikTok, here is what we got:

According to various reports and TikTok's own statements, here are some approximate numbers:

Hours of video uploaded to TikTok per day:
In 2020, TikTok reportedly reached 15 million videos uploaded per day. Assuming an average video length of 15 seconds (a rough estimate), that's around 225,000 hours of video uploaded per day.
In 2022, TikTok announced that it had reached 100 million hours of video uploaded per day. This translates to around 4,000 hours of video uploaded per minute.

Hours of video viewed on TikTok per day:

In 2020, TikTok reportedly reached 1 billion hours of video viewed per day.
In 2022, TikTok announced that it had reached 2 billion hours of video viewed per day.

Obviously we are dealing with the top bananas with TikTok and YouTube. However, it does make you wonder about the potential.

Building A Library

Here is where the building enters.

Obviously, the viewer numbers are not based upon videos that were just uploaded. The fact there are billions of videos in the data base means a lot can be seen.

In other words, the TikTok (and likewise YouTube) libraries are enormous. They also have very strong recommend engines that offer up suggestions the second a video is done playing. This is how they keep people on the application.

Leo has a chance to do something on a much smaller scale. When compared to TikTok, we can remove many zeros from the numbers. They talk in millions, Leo can talk in hundreds.

That said, what happens if we can put together videos that get hundreds of hours worth of viewing per day? How will that change things?

Naturally, the start will be to get videos uploaded. As stated, a recommend engine is crucial. As the weeks pass, more videos can be added, giving people options of what to watch.

The nice thing about LeoShorts, by going through threads, it is nothing more than a comment. That is a big deal on Hive.

Even more importantly, we can start the process of having our own library of content. People are free to share whatever they like. This helps with pageviews as people click on even more videos.

Ad Revenue

Keep in mind that another revenue stream will be ad revenue. We encountered some challenges, one of which was being massively underpaid by Google Ad Sense. (we were told it was pennies on the dollar).

This is still on the table except the team will build its own ad platform. Here is where the community needs to get ahead of it and start to focus upon page views. These need to increase. We are doing around 400K per month. That number has to be pushed towards 1 million.

To achieve that, video is likely going to be crucial. If we can develop a library of content that people will watch, it will drive page views. A recommend engine can get people clicking on an assortment of shorts, helping the process.

So far, search is an issue on most things related to Hive. Anything that is posted, if not seen immediately, is likely gone.

Some of what we are discussing here solves that.

Video is still the king of media. Having the capability roll out adds another layer to the Leo foundation from which we can start to utilize and build upon.

What Is Hive

oh damn inleo developed this or is this in collaboration with 3speak kinda like what ecency did. where will they store all the memory for these videos o.o its gonna add up to a lot

It is some type of collaboration. Inleo is not building the entire infrastructure. Instead, it is simply tapping into what 3Speak built in some manner. The key is we are going to be able to upload through Leo.

If there is search and a recommend engine, we are golden.

o.o i see that's cool will there be a cost for the users that upload the videos?

No there is no cost to upload the video like with 3Speak, YouTube, or any of the others.

Certainly there is a cost for video storage on the back end which is why YT and others sell advertising. 3Speak uses IPFS for that.

o.o i see thats good. 3speak got hidden fee of 3% i think of the post tho will leo does the same

I dont know what Leo will do. That is a way to fund development so I dont blame them.

But that isnt paying to upload.

I see guess just gotta wait and see how they wanna do it TT

As you mentioned, the search features on Hive are extremely lacking for sure and is something that really hurts the growth of the platform. So as adding more video services is cool and all, we can never get near YouTube's, or even Rumble's numbers without an effective search tool.

Exciting times LeoVideo and LeoShorts will be launched in order to take advantage of the potential of video to boost ad revenue and engagement. to develop a recommendation engine and content library in order to increase page views—a critical component of growth. Leo appears to have a bright future ahead

We will see what is rolled out when it goes live.

This is good news.

I thought it was exceptional when I heard it.

The reason why ad revenue was so low is because it's horrible countries and just mass page views. Any traffic outside of the USA, Canada and EU is pretty much considered garbage in terms of revenue generation. I'm not saying that to be mean it's just a fact lol.

That being said is this video part in collaboration with 3speak or is leo doing it on it's own? If they do it on their own that would be awesome but you have got to tap into ad revenue source for sure! Video is expensive.

That's the question I was going to ask if they are doing their own platform or tying into the SPK network.

The AMA saiid 3Speak so I would imagine they are integrating into either their app or using Spk in some form. I did not get the impression there is any Leo infrastructure on that.

What is key is whether there is search and recommend. Hive is a bottomless pit for info: it goes in and cannot be found again. Hopefully that will change with the video.

I remember Leo had this before where the videos are embedded in the post, so I'm hoping that by bringing it back, they were able to solve most of the issues they had earlier. It seems like the ad revenue is a big part of that. I hope it becomes a success this time around.

I hate it, but you're right. Video is king of media.

It was always that way. Television and movie studios always were worth a ton more than the newspapers and record companies.

The potential for Leo to build a robust video library is exciting. While it may not reach the scale of TikTok or YouTube, achieving even hundreds of hours of viewing per day could significantly impact the platform.

Increasing page views through engaging videos could enhance ad revenue opportunities, especially with a dedicated ad platform.

I dont think it will ever scale to YT or TikTok. That is a bit much to expect.

However, when incorporated into the rest of what is building, this could be worth millions to the platform over time. It might be the source of a lot of activity.

Search and recommend engine. That looks like the basic components that make YT and TikTok so successful (leaving aside the massive user base).

Without those, we end up with the typical Hive, post it and it disappears forever. We have years of data with stuff nobody can find other than, perhaps, Google which we know only captures a portion of what is posted.

So yeah, adding video is great but if we do not have search or recommend, it is just another bottomless pit of info.

It will be great if inleo can actually work together with 3speak and this will take inleo forward

It will really be a massive step up in the Leo platform if the video feature can be incorporated
