A narrative that was wrong since 2017. Yes BYD did outsell Tesla last month, and it isnt a one off. The next few years will see BYD sell more pure EVs than Tesla since it has the production capacity. Until Tesla gets the next gen car started, they are limited to what they can do.

Tesla also makes batteries, although they are not scaled. Plus they are building their own lithium refinery in Texas.

BYD makes its own batteries which lets them lower their costs. This gives them a big edge over Tesla.

No it doesnt. Tesla is dropping the average cost of their vehicles by about $800 per quarter. People do not realize how far ahead Tesla is with everyone else when it comes to manufacturing and software within the industry.

As for the models, they just did a major refresh on the model 3...which is ramping in China. This is coming to the US factory. The Model Y gets a refresh later this year.

I have all the naysayers for about 8 years and they are consistently wrong.

BYD is a strong company. Keep in mind, Tesla makes a lot more money off each EV sold than BYD.

There are. A lot of haters out there. You honestly wont learn what separates Tesla from everyone else by reading what the media writes. Nor will you get it from Wall Street analysts. They do not get it either.

For example how many articles did you see announcing that some auto man. are now ordering the gigapresses for their production lines? That is reported and hence, the presumption is they are catching up. Of course, Tesla started using them in 2018.

What doesnt get mentioned is Tesla is now about to implement a new manufacturing process. The mainstream only writes about Toyota ordering a gigapress.

I guess from that perspective alone, Tesla is still ways ahead of its rivals. Thanks for the clarifications and added info.

As always more nuances then the media like to report. Also, we are in a technological age meaning the old rules are not really applicable. A lead in tech tends to accelerate which makes it difficult for newer/later players to catch up.

I agree, especially if the technology is very complex. It reminds me of TSMC, and how they are so advanced, and their rivals are unable to reverse engineer some of their products.
