Citibank is doing a proof of concept test on Avalanche. It is trying to tokenize the stock of a fictional private equity firm.

Being Citibank they'll use this as a way to steal money from their customers somehow...
I haven't heard of this, but this is pretty big. I can't even imagine the different possibilities if this was actually implemented for current stocks. You mentioned purchasing stocks with other tokens. I can see national stock exchanges becoming obsolete. They can evolve to something like Binance that is available to most/all countries. It can be similar to Forex, or maybe all exchanges will just combine into one exchange. I hope this test becomes successful, and more companies try it out.
