Hey guys,
On the Ukrainian-Russian war front, tensions are rising once again, and it seems that the conflict may escalate. In previous years, while the war between Russia and Ukraine continued, NATO and Russia both agreed that the war was primarily between those two countries. Yes, NATO was supporting Ukraine with weapons and financial aid, but these weapons were to be used strictly for defensive purposes.
However, this dynamic is starting to shift. Ukraine is now attacking targets on Russian soil and attempting to push further into Russia, though they have been unsuccessful so far. The likely reason for this is Russia's advances in Ukraine. The Ukrainians probably want to strike deep into Russia with NATO weapons to make the Russian people feel insecure and to force Russia to pull troops back to defend these targets.
Is this a good strategy? Sometimes, yes. The Russians, as the attackers, are the ones stretching their forces. But at the same time, after two and a half years of fighting, the hardest-hit party is, of course, Ukraine. The people are living in constant fear, war exhaustion is rising, and they know they can't win because Russia is stronger. This was something we knew all along.
For me, the war was never about Ukraine retaking Crimea. That is likely lost, and Donetsk and Luhansk are probably beyond recovery as well. The victory for Ukraine, in my view, would be if the war ended with a white peace — no more land taken by either side. Russia would have spent billions trying to win but, in the end, wouldn’t have expanded its territory. Ukraine’s resistance would show that even with NATO's indirect involvement, Russia could be stopped, and Putin would lose his image of invincibility.
Now, however, Ukraine wants to attack Russia with NATO missiles. Putin has said that if they do, it will mean NATO is at war with Russia, and he would retaliate against NATO countries. NATO is considering allowing Ukraine to use ballistic missiles, which could lead to a dangerous escalation.
This is not acceptable. Ukraine must use every weapon it has within its own territories to defend itself. Risking a world war won't make things better for Ukraine; it will make things worse. Ukraine could become the center of the fighting, leading to the near-total destruction of the country.
Do you remember what happened to Poland in WWII?
Let us all hope that the war won't escalate more.
