I am surprised at how idealistic he sounds. Don't get me wrong, I agree with what he and you are saying. We should really focus on projects that have meaning and purpose, instead of just putting making money as the priority. But reality is far from that. There is a reason why there are popular phrases like "Money makes the world go round" and "Money is root of all evil". What I think would be effective, is to combine the two. Maybe have some part of the transaction/gas/swap fees go to charity. If there is little to no money to be had, not a lot of people will do it.
