Checking HiveStats.io For My Curation Report

in LeoFinancelast month

I have been attempting to expand my curation list of Hive content creators for a while now, but it is been challenging. About 24 users were on my autovote on hive.vote when I checked them yesterday, deleted two accounts, and balanced it.

I gave auto votes primarily to make curation easier and to ensure that my vote weight never reaches 100%, which would result in a significant loss of curation reward. I do not like auto, though, so I go back to it frequently and occasionally make adjustments.

Sometimes, in an attempt to allow for more manual curation, I tried to lower the percentage of vote weight I distributed, but in those cases, my voting power actually decreased. I typically curate in the morning, at which point I have roughly 75% of my voting power.

My auto is still on, so it will be challenging for me to ever reach 100%. After that, I leave it to regenerate for a full day. I will generally reach 100% even without my auto, though, if I skip three days of manual Curation. For instance, the last time I had 100 votes was when I traveled a great distance to a place without a network (this was in May)
It is that easy: I need to balance it out because I do not have enough Hive power to support both manual and automatic curation.

Sadly, this means I can not curate the way I want to. My total vote is 0.74$ with Hive at 19 cents, and the current is roughly 0.5$. It is challenging for me to give any account my highest vote because of my ongoing curation because it never stays at 100%.

I may have stopped curating for the day, but I always start over when I come across content that needs to be upvoted because I am a sentimental curator, which means I do not follow any rules. I therefore have a tendency to curate as soon as I am active because, let us face it, what good is consuming if you do not also curate?

For me, curation can only improve if Hive's value increases by, say, thirty to fifty cents. It implies that I can cast a vote with a higher weight while casting a smaller percentage. In the absence of that, I am forced to decide between voting quality and frequently. If I select option A, my vote weight would be less significant; if I select option B, my vote weight will be greater but I will only be able to cast it once.

For instance, I will only be able to curate an account for 3.5 days instead of seven, but the vote value will increase.

Curation Rewards

The Hive curation reward is not to be taken lightly; rather, it should be taken seriously. For this reason, the objective of your voting power should be "no 100%." Even though it might appear insignificant at first, over time it adds up.

I just do not have enough, so my only choice is to cut back on my curation frequency and give it time to heal. Although there is not a workable solution at this time, I should probably stop voting with this account for two full days, if not sooner. I am hoping to find a way to avoid curation altogether, such as a network outage.

There is no denying that things improve when Hive's price eventually starts to rise without falling too far. Although October has not been the October we were hoping for, the market has been in a crab walk since the beginning of the month. Regardless of your stake, you need to start taking curation seriously.

You keep your voting mana quite low, but I've seen lower. Luckily for you, after the next HF it won't matter, as the voting power won't be reduced with the voting mana anymore. A full vote or a 50% vote or a 10% vote will be the same when the voting mana is at 100%, 80%, or 20%.

when is this expected to happen? Any article for more details about it?

Looks like HF 28 got postponed. This was the last news about it (bold mine):

We’re planning to release 1.27.7 sometime in July (probably near the end of July). As part of this release, we’re also setting what we expect will be the final “trigger date” for hardfork 28: September 24, 2024 at 14:00 UTC (to allow a little time after the upcoming HiveFest in Croatia).

Blocktrades talked about this on different occasions. I was under the impression this was going to be included in the HF, but maybe it won't be, I'm not sure anymore, because I can't find it.

Wouldn't people be prone to actually abusing this system since they can easy vote themselves and their friends multiple times with losing their vote weight?

Blocktrades explained in a Hive core dev meeting that degrading the max vote value as the voting mana drops was a protection introduced to combat a certain type of voting bots, and that they seem not to be active anymore, and therefore the protection is no longer required. He asked if there is any other concerns about removing it. Nobody said anything at that time. So, at least for a while it seemed to be a change that will come with HF28. Now I'm not sure... Maybe they found a reason why this protection shouldn't be removed.

To answer your question: if this change would be introduced after all, things would work the same way as now, except if, for example, at 100% voting mana you have a 1$ vote value, it would be the same at 50% voting mana, or at 20% voting mana. What it would help with is to consume your voting mana quicker without losing vote value, for example, if you predict that you won't be active on Hive for a couple of days.

Well it's all complicated and sometimes it takes time to understand how these changes would actually work. It's been a long time we've had any HF, and I'll be looking forward to seeing how this one would work. Thanks for taking the time to explain it

I do a mix of automatic curation and manual curation and you are among the accounts I follow in automatic but also in manual :)
As for my mana voting I don't pay much attention to this percentage and in fact my mana voting is pretty much always under 50% because above a certain number of HP I don't think it changes much although this is something I should look into

You should try and maybe keep it up to 70% so that your vote weight will be healthier enough. Yeah, I mostly follow you manually when it comes to curation. Sometimes my auto is not effective, so I just top it up with my manual

It's tough to balance things. I just try to get my voting power between 70% and 80% so I can come back at night the next day and it isn't full.

Exactly, I think you have the right blend and balance, sometimes I can't balance mine because there are many people to curate

I just adjusted mine as a matter of fact, I'm going to have to take a few days to let mine rebuild a bit.

How have you been feeling?

Taking a few days to let it regenerate is actual the best. Sometimes I can't do this because there's always someone to curate

I have moved toward a combination of auto-voting and manual voting. About half and half.

That's a very good way of blending it together, I do the same all the time, it's healthy

Personally I must say I don't really understand how the whole curation thing works. Anyway, I just love reading and curating as much post as I can on a daily basis.

Well it's not hard to understand. If you have or get to 500 HP you'll be given a slider

What is it for?

I was surprised at how low you kept your vote mana. I've heard in the 80% range is good but I suppose that it one person's opinion.

I couldn't and can't still help it. I keep up my voting mana very low and that's because there's a lot of accounts to actually curate, it's quite difficult to manage

I also follow a mixed approach with my curation. I use auto but with few users and mostly manual curation. With auto it's good to utilise VP so that it doesn't rest at 100%. You have rightly said that curation is serious business and we need to pay attention to this to make the most out of it.

Exactly what I mean too. I think it's important to use auto if you don't want to ever hit 100% and not miss Curation rewards

I learnt quite a lot from this post, and though my stakes are low, I understand that leaving it at 100% is a waste of curation rewards. Thank you.
