I do wonder what would happen if the stabiliser system for pegging HBD at $1 USD became broken or lost its funding...

It would still work fine, if the stabilizer lost its funding.
The in-built pegging mechanics are actually good.
It's just another improvised crutch that became a permanent solution for no fucking reason.

(We'll there's one reason, but I'd have to mention their name)
