Today, many freshers are finding it hard to create a proper resume. I understand that resume requirements differ from one recruiter to another, and based on the job requirements too. I have seen some people hiring just based on academic qualifications, and some recruiters hire based on skills, and they don't care about marks or even completing the degree. But it is also our luck to land on a job that works out well for us based on all these requirements.
Update resume accordingly for each job
I have noticed that people just have one copy or one version of their resume, and they send it to all types of jobs. I see the importance of updating the resume specific to the job, especially if you are a fresher. Usually, freshers may not have any big to showcase, but they can at least have something relevant mentioned in the resume. For example, if someone is applying for a developer job, the person who is interviewing would be interested to know the community projects that they have worked on or details about their GitHub repository, etc.
This may not be a suitable requirement if the job is going to be a non-technical but a functional role. The recruiter would immediately reject the profile when they see details about their coding experience. This tweaking of the profile is very important until we land a job.
Certifications and internships
Some recruiters give importance to certifications and internships. But ideally, if I'm a recruiter, I wouldn't care much about internships and certifications so much because as a fresher, I would like to see people grab all the available opportunities and land on a suitable one rather than doing a certification and restricting ourselves only to that. This can reduce the number of avenues available. About internships, I know how hard it is to get internships and especially when there is a job freeze everywhere because of the confusion created by AI. It is a nice-to-have requirement but not a must-have requirement.
Getting help from AI
It is good to reach out to AI for improving the resume. Today, based on our qualifications, AI itself is capable of creating a suitable resume. But we can have our own creativity too in the resume that we prepare. I have heard that we can even do mock interviews with AI, which can help us improve a lot. Preparing the resume based on AI's suggestion is also a good thing to do as long as the suggestion is relevant for us.
