Having multiple bank accounts is a hassle

in LeoFinance2 days ago

I was in 12th grade when I first created my bank account. At that time, I used to participate in radio shows and contests and win prizes. The prizes were given away in the form of demand drafts that could be deposited only into the account directly. That's how the first account was created. Since then, I have been using bank accounts, and I still hold that bank account, which is also active.

For every different need I have, I usually create a new bank account, and now I have accumulated a total of 6 to 7 bank accounts. There are advantages to having multiple bank accounts because we can allocate each to each task. That's why I created multiple accounts in the first place. When it is convenient, there are also headaches in holding multiple bank accounts. The problem with multiple bank accounts is that it is very hard to keep track of everything and maintain them.

KYC issue

I had to deal with a KYC issue in the last few months. All my bank accounts asked me to do a re-KYC, and it was a painful process where I had to visit the bank and stand in the queue to complete the process. The good thing, maybe, is that I don't have to do that again for the next 5 years. I still have two more banks where I'm yet to do the re-KYC, and they are calling me regularly. When we do KYC online, there is a mismatch in the name, and they are asking me to visit the nearby bank in person and complete it. This process should get better.

Unwanted bank charges

The next problem with multiple bank accounts is that we have to pay SMS charges and other charges on every account. Maybe this value may not be a big one but it is a waste because I don't use the other banks regularly. I primarily use either one or two banks; the other bank accounts are still idle, and I have them because I either have a loan or deposit over there. There are no benefits in holding multiple bank accounts, I think. I want to keep my finances simple, and maybe one good way to do it is to reduce the number of bank accounts I have, and this way, I can reduce the headache.

I got a lot of bank accounts a while ago, because I know how difficult it can be dealing with banks when using crypto. Fortunately, I didn't have any problems, so I started closing a lot of them. The idea was to spread funds across them so if any one bank cut me off, I could still pay bills and live until it is resolved.

Banks are criminal organizations funded by the government. Once you give a bank money, it becomes their money, not yours and you are blessed if you are allowed to spend it when you choose.

that's true, here there are limits on withdrawal per day, per month... are you kiddin me? it's my money, if i want to i should be able to withdraw all in once

not to forget if you withdraw too much, the state officers will come ask you why you did so and for what you used that money...talk about control

I was watching a video from someone the other day. He tried to take out 2000 dollars and they were demanding to see what he was using it for. He said a motorcycle and they required to see the paperwork before getting it. He said he was on the market looking for one and they said they won’t give him money until he decides and has the papers they can review.

There you go, and I tought I lived in the dumbest nation on that matter, apparently it's worldwide

I can totally relate to this. Having multiple bank accounts seems useful at first, but managing them all later becomes stressful, especially when things like KYC come up. I remember the time when I was in service. I had to open another account, but there was a mistake in the name arrangement. I had to go through stress of going to court and sworn affidavit before everything was settled.

Well it actually depends on perspective, I don't really see anything wrong in using multiple banks

i only have one, simply because the bank charges money for the account, then charges for the debit card, then state charges other money if you are above 8-10k€ ...its just a money eating

Isn't having multiple bank accounts the same as not putting one's eggs into one basket? 🙃😂

It's just like when we go to open an account, they open our account very quickly because they have to meet their targets, but when an issue arises later, they solve our problem with much more difficulty and take a lot of time, so the bankers will have to speed up their service.

Its getting harder and harder to not bend to them.

Everything requires credit card these days.

What I despise the most is 2FA.

Now a days, they ask you to do KYC every year, and even a smallest amount of interest earned from your savings account shows up in your IT returns, for which, you will have to pay extra tax. I closed one account just few days back- 2-3 accounts are more than enough.

here it's not
i am multiple accounts which are working well for me.

These days, I barely even use local banks
I only make use of one local bank and I keep a little amount of money there for emergency needs…

Having deposits across different banks helps. Every bank is insured upto 5 lakh rupees under DICDC. So it helps in diversifying the risk of one bank going down. And insuring more amount. Basically 5 lakh per bank account. Also a lot of small finance banks provide higher interest rates on deposits. So I prefer making 4.5L₹ deposits in such banks. 4.5L principal + the interest goes till 5L₹ insured.
