To gain good recognition in the fast-growing business world, it is essential to participate in the Artificial Intelligence race. Many companies have started participating in this race. Whatever product companies have, they have started integrating AI and ML into their products. There are genuinely some use cases and need for AI in some of the products but not all the products need an AI element inside it. It just becomes a selling point. But if customers are clever, they know very well that it is a scam.
AI can be a scam
When we are purchasing a product in the market that claims to have AI inside it, we have to understand if it is a fake product or a good one. For example, if the product is just a ceiling fan, it doesn't need an AI element inside it. These days the day-to-day gadgets are starting to have AI elements inside them. We have to understand to what extent it is essential and to what extent it would be useful. We don't need AI elements in all the products.
Some products in the market come with a genuine AI inside them but some products are just scams because they would like to overprice their product and AI is just another selling point to do that. It is important to stay away from such products. For example, some products can claim to have an AI reporting inside that but the product manufacturers might have added predefined stats data inside that and whenever we try to get a report, we would be getting a few random data from the pre-defined reports. These are not AI-powered devices and we have to be careful with such devices.
Where can AI be useful in products
In many products, AI can be of great use and they help us save money and give a better user experience. These days AI is available in many household products. For example, if we take a Refrigerator for example, we will be able to see AI inside that in modern ones. Some of the use cases of AI inside those devices can be as follows:
- Monitor the usage stats and provide setting recommendation and also recommend about service and maintenance.
- Reduce power consumption by understanding the pattern of usage
- Temperature control can be another great need because the surrounding temperature can change and the temperature might need a change based on the type of items kept inside it.
For refrigerators, I can think of the above use cases but when it comes to other products we can think of several such use cases for smart devices. That's one of the primary reasons why they are called smart devices. For example, if we have an AI-powered device fixed on our car, it can predict our driving pattern and let us know some suggestions based on our driving behavior. This can change the mileage we can get from the car and also increase the efficiency of our ride. The wear and tear on our car can also be reduced.
