Instead of making purchases online with just one click, it's better to go to the store, see the product up close, and think about whether we actually need it
I find I shop more wisely online. When I'm in a store it's hard to keep track of prices and to compare products. Online I can compare not only the offerings of one vendor, but offerings from vendor to vendor. I even stop and look up reviews on products to learn if there are issues with the product.
On the other hand
using cash for purchases
definitely helps. However, hard to use cash and shop online. We have to just keep track of our purchases more responsibly if we are using credit cards. In my case, we have a miles reward card and that is an added incentive to use the card. It doesn't cost us any more (although, overall it does raise cost to everyone as vendors raise prices to compensate for fees). My kids have traveled freely on the tickets I earned. These include a trip to Curacao, a trip to Atlanta, GA, and a round trip ticket to Europe. I don't fly anymore so I don't benefit, but my kids do.
As for spending to feel better...I actually feel a bit ill these days when I spend money. It goes out so quickly and once money is gone, it's gone.
