Greetings dear friends of #worldmappin, I hope your week has started in an excellent way and full of positive things. Mine, as usual, started with some work; however, I always like to find a space to disconnect and explore. It was in one of those moments that I discovered a cultural jewel that I want to share with you today, the Loreto Prieto Higuerey Public Library. It is located in a privileged place, at the intersection of Lares, Libertad and Virgen del Carmen streets, in the El Copey sector, in the historic city of La Asunción, in Nueva Esparta, Margarita Island.

La mía, como es habitual, inició con algo de trabajo; sin embargo, siempre me gusta encontrar un espacio para desconectar y explorar. Fue en uno de esos momentos que descubrí una joya cultural que hoy quiero compartir con ustedes, la Biblioteca Pública Loreto Prieto Higuerey. Se encuentra situada en un lugar privilegiado, en la intersección de las calles Lares, Libertad y Virgen del Carmen, en el sector El Copey, en la histórica ciudad de La Asunción, en Nueva Esparta, Isla Margarita.
I had planned this tour early on, motivated by the enthusiasm of a friend who not only told me about the existence of this library, but also told me about its main purpose, which is nothing more than to encourage the love of reading and reading habits among the inhabitants of Margarita. Her description left me intrigued, and I could not miss the opportunity to get to know it for myself.
So it was that, at the end of my work responsibilities, I headed to La Asunción, a place that always manages to surprise me. I have shared in previous posts how this colonial city is full of culture, history and charming details. On this occasion, while strolling through its cobblestone streets, I discovered some wonderful murals that paid homage to the region's popular artists. I could not pass up the opportunity to learn more, so I stopped to ask about them. They explained to me that these works represent a tribute to Margarita's rich artistic tradition, something they value highly about this place.
Desde temprano había planeado este recorrido, motivada por el entusiasmo de una amiga que no solo me habló de la existencia de esta biblioteca, sino que también me comentó acerca de su propósito principal, que no es más que fomentar el amor por la lectura y los hábitos de lectura entre los habitantes de Margarita. Su descripción me dejó intrigada, y no podía perder la oportunidad de conocerla por mí misma.
Así fue como, al finalizar mis responsabilidades laborales, me dirigí hacia La Asunción, un lugar que siempre logra sorprenderme. He compartido en publicaciones previas cómo esta ciudad colonial está llena de cultura, historia y detalles encantadores. En esta ocasión, mientras paseaba por sus calles empedradas, descubrí unos maravillosos murales que rendían homenaje a los cultores populares de la región. No podía dejar pasar la oportunidad de saber más, así que me detuve a preguntar sobre ellos. Me explicaron que estas obras representan un tributo a la rica tradición artística de Margarita, algo que valoran mucho de este lugar.
After enjoying this walk full of art and tradition, I finally arrived at my destination. Although the library was closed at the time, I was not discouraged. From the outside, the structure already reflected a singular beauty that deserved to be admired.
Después de disfrutar de este paseo lleno de arte y tradición, llegué finalmente a mi destino. Aunque la biblioteca estaba cerrada en ese momento, no me desanimé. Desde el exterior, la estructura ya reflejaba una belleza singular que merecía ser admirada.
I decided to wait for a while in the nearby park, called Juan Bautista Arismendi, a quiet place shaded by imposing oak trees that invite you to rest. In the meantime, I had the good fortune to talk with the library's caretaker, who offered me valuable information about this cultural space and added that it would not be open this afternoon.
Decidí esperar un rato en el parque cercano, llamado Juan Bautista Arismendi, un lugar tranquilo y sombreado por imponentes robles que invitan al descanso. Mientras tanto, tuve la suerte de conversar con el vigilante de la biblioteca, quien me ofreció valiosa información sobre este espacio cultural y añadió que está tarde no habría sus puertas.
The Loreto Prieto Higuerey Library is much more than a building. On its façade, there is a plaque that indicates its name and the year in which it was built. The architecture is fascinating, with a design that combines arches and large glass surfaces, which allows a glimpse of part of its interior from the outside. According to the caretaker, its halls are as impressive as its exterior.
La Biblioteca Loreto Prieto Higuerey es mucho más que un edificio. En su fachada, destaca una tarja que señala su nombre y el año en que fue construida. La arquitectura es fascinante, con un diseño que combina arcos y grandes superficies de vidrio, lo cual permite vislumbrar parte de su interior desde afuera. Según el vigilante, sus salones son tan impresionantes como su exterior.
In addition, in the garden surrounding the library, there is a sculpture entitled “Ave merodeando la intimidad” (Bird prowling intimacy), a work by artist Humberto Casorla, created in 2001. This piece adds an artistic touch that complements the atmosphere of the place.

Although I did not have the opportunity to enter that day, I was deeply impressed by the harmony between the architecture of the library, its environment and the cultural elements that surround it. Looking up in the garden area, I noticed a glass structure that gives it an air of modernity and elegance. This experience left me wanting to return soon to explore it further and discover what it holds inside.
Aunque no tuve la oportunidad de ingresar ese día, quedé profundamente impresionada por la armonía entre la arquitectura de la biblioteca, su entorno y los elementos culturales que la rodean. Mirando hacia arriba, en el área del jardín, pude notar una estructura de cristal que le otorga un aire de modernidad y elegancia. Esta experiencia me dejó con ganas de regresar pronto para explorar más a fondo y descubrir que guarda en su interior.
