It's getting hotter and hotter each day. We are at a point where, in my city in Greece, the last rainy day was in May. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to stay in the city. I am waiting for more data to come out to make a post about this because this will probably be the hottest summer ever recorded in history. That's why, last night, I went to Mount Olympus, stayed the night there, and returned home today. As always, this was an amazing experience.
When you go to Mount Olympus, the feeling is just incredible. The moment you look down, the view below takes your breath away. Everything becomes clearer. Your head clears, and you feel the moment. Every idiotic thought that shouldn't bother your mind just leaves. It’s like the mountain has a magical way of wiping away the stress and clutter of daily life.
I went to the Christaki refuge. It's a spot that holds a special place in my mind. Nestled on the slopes of the mountain, the refuge offers a cozy haven from the sweltering heat of the city. The air is crisp and cool, a refreshing contrast to the stifling temperatures below. Of course you can sleep inside but we had our tents.
As the sun began to set, the sky turned into a canvas of vibrant hues – deep oranges, pinks, and purples blending together in a spectacular display. Watching the sunset from the mountain is a humbling experience. It reminds you of how small you are in the grand scheme of things and how fleeting and precious each moment is. The city, with all its noise and heat, felt like a distant memory.
Spending the night in the refuge was a rejuvenating experience. There is a magical silence in there the only thing you hear is the air. I felt a sense of peace and clarity that is hard to find in the city life.
This morning, as I made my way back home, I felt a renewed sense of energy and purpose. The mountain has a way of doing that – it strips away the unnecessary worries and distractions, leaving you with a clear mind and a full heart. The heat of the city seemed more bearable despite the initial sock I felt because the temperature there was 5 degrees in the night and I returned to 42 degrees in Katerini.
Reflecting on this experience, as I have said in almost all my post it is important to take a break and reconnect with nature. The mountains offer a place where you can find solace and clarity amidst the chaos.I am grateful for the respite that Mount Olympus provides.
P.S Here are some of the friends I made there.
