Hello dear friends,
I think today's post will be the last one I'll be able to share this week. Friday is going to be very busy for me, and I have plans for the weekend, so unfortunately, I won't be able to write another post. But we'll definitely see each other next week.
What I want to share with you is that finally, after much wandering, I managed to find a ghost town. It seemed almost impossible because there are always people living in these places, but in reality, in the province of Pisa, I found the village of Toiano, and it appears to be completely deserted.
Even though in the end, I discovered that someone still takes care of minimal maintenance of the village; I found some dogs wandering around this village, and also some cats, and I discovered that someone takes care of feeding them. Of course, the situation in this village is very precarious, as you can see from the photos, but it would certainly be the ideal place for people who want to do urban exploration, even though some of the entrances to the various houses have been walled up, and I also found a sign informing people not to take things from the houses.
It's worth noting that this village began to depopulate after the fifties when most of the inhabitants left to find work in factories, a job that certainly provided much more stability and a higher income. One of the photos I took was in the village cemetery because unfortunately, this village has been shrouded in mystery. In fact, it seems that one of the first femicides was committed here in 1947; a woman was murdered in the woods near the place where she fetched water, but the true culprit was never found. For several years, a kind of horror tourism, as I call it, has developed, and let's say that someone is trying to preserve this cemetery from the decline it's facing.
In conclusion, I can say that this was a fascinating discovery, albeit a very sad one because it's truly a shame to see a place so rich in history abandoned and destined for total decline.
Fortunately, there are people who care and try to preserve this place. It also pleased me greatly to find so many little animals coming to greet you as soon as you arrive in this village; they have truly become the real inhabitants of these places.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the photos I shared. We'll see each other in my next post, and I wish you all a good day!
