Small square Francisco of Miranda (Eng/Esp)

in Worldmappin15 days ago

English version

Today’s tour takes us to a small square located in the city center, next to the Manzanares River and the Antonio Guzmán Blanco Bridge. This unique space is considered an extension of Francisco de Miranda Square, as it lies directly across from it. This is precisely where the bust of the First Universal Venezuelan ended up when the main square was remodeled and a large statue of Miranda sheathing his sword was placed in its place.

The bust on its pedestal features a striking gold-colored design and is visible to the many people who pass through this area daily on their way to Ayacucho Park, downtown, the governor’s office, the Luis Mariano Rivera Theater, and other points of interest. Students also gather here while waiting for transportation to Clodosbaldo Russian University.

This part of town used to be chaotic, especially in the hours leading up to dusk, because this area was home to the bus stops for Campeche, Boca de Sabana, and Cantarrana, while just a few meters further on, across from the Tamarindo, were the buses heading to Cumanacoa and neighboring towns. People used to rush back and forth trying to get home as quickly as possible. But that whole scene changed when the bus stops were relocated to other areas.

Now, the small square features rest areas—comfortable concrete benches that are ideal for chatting for a while and enjoying the scenery, sheltered under the shade of leafy trees, which are so large they can be seen from a distance. Given its proximity to the Manzanares River, the place is cool and exudes a certain tranquility.

There are also some very well-maintained flower beds that add to the area’s charm; the most common flowers are the Trinitarias. All in all, it’s a pleasant spot worth stopping at for a few moments to enjoy some time in nature before heading into the bustling center of Cumana.
