Visiting the City Traki Shopping Center is a rewarding experience thanks to its indoor atmosphere; with its comprehensive air conditioning, it’s like an oasis in the midst of the relentless eastern sun that heats Cumana. Its facilities always look very well-maintained, and there’s a steady stream of visitors at all hours—it has undoubtedly become a recreational hub.
Since its opening, some stores have changed their lines of business. I remember that at the entrance there used to be two bakeries, one across from the other, which have since been replaced by a large department store and a technology retailer. On the ground floor, there used to be a large supermarket, which closed its doors when another one of similar size opened at the other end. The dynamics of business have reached Cumana, and only those businesses that stay up-to-date and prove most attractive to customers are able to survive.
Black Friday is usually celebrated here; the last one turned into chaos because of the large number of people buying tech items like smart TVs and the latest smartphones. I usually visit the Fair Level to eat with my family and enjoy the view from the Terrace Level, where I was able to read a book in peace.
It’s also common to see cultural activities such as dances, plays, art exhibitions, musical performances, and events related to holidays like Mother’s Day, Children’s Day, Women’s Day, Christmas, Carnival, and others, as well as anniversary celebrations for local businesses such as radio stations and shops.
Sometimes, just walking around and taking it all in is enough to help you disconnect from everyday life for a while. On one of my most recent visits to Ciudad Traki, a well-known local singer brightened the moment with her voice, singing songs by Olga Tañón to the delight of everyone present.

Visitar el Centro Comercial Ciudad Traki es gratificante por su ambiente interno, con aire acondicionado integral, es como un oasis en medio del implacable sol oriental que calienta Cumaná. Sus instalaciones siempre lucen muy bien cuidadas y la asistencia de público es constante a toda hora, sin duda, se ha convertido en una zona recreativa.
Desde su inauguración, algunos locales han cambiado de rubro, recuerdo que en la entrada habían dos panaderías, una frente a la otra, y han dado paso a una gran tienda por departamentos y a un negocio de venta de tecnología. En planta baja estaba ubicado un gran supermercado, el cual cerró sus puertas al abrir otro de similares dimensiones en el otro extremo. La dinámica de los negocios llegó a Cumaná y solo se mantienen los que permanecen actualizados y resulten más atractivos para captar clientes.
Acá en este lugar se suele celebrar el Black friday, el último de ellos resultó un caos por la cantidad de personas comprando artículos tecnológicos como televisores inteligentes y teléfonos de última generación. Por lo regular suelo visitar el nivel feria para comer junto a la familia y disfrutar de la vista que ofrece el nivel Terraza, allí pude leer un libro con tranquilidad.
También es común presenciar actividades culturales como danzas, obras de teatro, exposición de arte, interpretaciones musicales y actividades relacionadas con fechas tales como el Día de la Madre, Día del Niño, Día de la Mujer, Navidad, Carnaval y otros, además de celebraciones de aniversarios de empresas locales como emisoras radiales y comercios.
A veces, solamente caminar y observar es suficiente para desconectarse un buen rato de la cotidianidad. En una de las últimas ocasiones que visité Ciudad Traki, una reconocida cantante local alegraba el instante con su voz, entonando temas de Olga Tañón para beneplácito de los presentes.
