Today’s adventure takes us to Caigüire Beach, in the area known as Malecón Sucre, where you can enjoy calm waters and a beautiful landscape. Around 1:00 p.m., the sun blazed relentlessly in the Cumaná sky; only a few trees and the roofs jutting out from some houses offered any shade to those passing by.
Amid that blazing landscape, two children stood at the water’s edge dragging a fishing net. From a young age, they’ve been learning this trade to make a living and bring food home. Although the beach was calm, the sea wasn’t kind this time—when they pulled the net in, it was empty. As children, it’s clear they lack knowledge and skill, but their faith and eagerness to learn are evident.
In the distance, a few boats could be seen anchored near the shore. The boats rocked back and forth, following the rhythm set by the waves. In the sky, several shearwaters flew in a group—a sign that fish were nearby—forming a peculiar formation, like a squadron ready to dive for their prey. Both the children and the shearwaters were pursuing the same goals.
Nature can be unpredictable; after a scorching sun, the clouds were giving way to an overcast sky—all in a matter of seconds. A large passing cloud appeared, offering momentary relief from the stifling heat that was felt at that moment. I took advantage of this to continue on my way more comfortably, since there was now shade; I had to pick up the pace before the sun reappeared.

La aventura de hoy nos lleva por la playa Caigüire, en el sector conocido como Malecón Sucre, allí se puede disfrutar de aguas tranquilas y un hermoso paisaje. A eso de las una de la tarde, el sol estaba implacable insertado en el cielo cumanés, solo unos árboles y los techos que sobresalían de algunas casas ofrecían algo de sombra a quienes pasaban por allí.
En medio de aquel paisaje incandescente, dos niños estaban en la orilla arrastrando una red de pesca. Desde pequeños aprenden este oficio para subsistir y llevar alimento a sus casas. A lo lejos se divisaban algunas embarcaciones ancladas cerca de la orilla. Los botes se bamboleaban de un lado a otro, siguiendo el ritmo que dictaban las olas. En el cielo varias tijeretas volaban en grupo, indicio de que hay peces cerca, haciendo una peculiar formación, como un escuadrón atento para lanzarse en picada sobre el alimento. Tanto los niños como las tijeretas perseguían los mismos objetivos.
La naturaleza puede resultar impredecible, después de un sol candente, las nubes estaban cediendo paso a un cielo nublado, todo en cuestión de segundos, una gran nube pasajera apareció para conceder alivio momentáneo ante el agobiante calor que se sentía en ese momento. Aproveché para seguir mi rumbo con mayor comodidad porque ahora había sombra, debía apurar el paso antes que el sol reaparezca.
