today we headed to Hartley's Crocodile Farm located just off the Captain Cook Highway in tropical North Queensland.
Hartley's celebrated their 90th birthday in 2024 and is a highly visited tourist destination in Queensland seeing over 400 people per day.
float along a swamp with your very own tour guide that's home to over 30 Salt water Crocodiles. The cafeteria also serves up dishes made from Crocodile meat which you can see little miss and I enjoyed. It tastes inbetween pork and chicken and is a white meat. not quite fishy at all.
Entry is $AUD45 for adults, $AUD22.50 for kids 14 and under and children under 4 get in for free.
getting there is easy there are many trandport options and tour guides but the best option for a family is to rent a car for $AUD90 a day includes insurance.
35 minutes drive from Port Douglas nestled away in a natural Australian tropical setting its a place time forgot.
there is also a Crocodile Attack Show which is pretty decent with lots of Q&A from the audience. a lot did ask about Bert which was apparently a Crocodile from the Crocodile Dundee film. I didn't realise that film was such a global iconic film.
Bert apparently died last year as the tour guide informed us, but he wasn't too happy that Kamakazee the star of the show with a pretty big fan base.
renting a car will give you access to more places and highly recommend. Other areas which we will be visiting is the Mossmon gorge a prestine river and waterway that has fish swimming alongside.
The wildlife sanctuary is also a great place to visit and you'll be able to see a Cassawary which was described today as an Emu dressed in drag. An interesting description of the bird. But it is a beautifully coloured bird with a hard helmet that it uses to defend itself and protect against falling coconuts.
Tropical North Queensland is a bucket list destination so stay tuned as we bring you more of the very best on offer.
let us know your thoughts in the comments section below, and if you've visited Port Douglas let us know your thoughts as well as all the awesome things you did while you were here and we might pop it on our to do list!
