Hello dear friends, today I want to share with you a walk I took to visit the Catholic church dedicated to Santa Rita de Casia that is located on Fifth Avenue and 26th, in the elegant neighborhood of Miramar in Havana.

I am a great admirer of the sculptural work of Rita Longa, when I found out that in this church there was a sculpture of Santa Rita made by her I set out to plan my visit, for some time I was very eager to see her.

Fifth Avenue is a fast road, only light cars can travel and for this reason I always saw it when I passed by car, but I never had time to pay it a well-deserved visit.

I also know the history of Saint Rita of Cascia and I was curious to know the temple that had been built in Cuba in 1943 to venerate her, so today was the day destined to satisfy my curiosity.

The first thing we notice at the top of the façade is a sculpture of Saint Rita of Cascia accompanied further down by the 4 evangelists located above the three large doors. It has a tower to its right that contains the bell tower at its highest point.

On the left in the garden, you can see another sculpture of Santa Rita accompanied by a flowering plant with beautiful red roses.

Saint Rita of Cascia is known as the Patroness of impossible causes and marital problems fundamentally. One of its symbols is the rose, which is why it is always accompanied by roses, preferably red.

When I entered I was impressed by its interior design, its ceiling is beautiful made of mahogany with arches that give it a lot of visual strength, I am also struck by the great natural luminosity that there is due to the large glass windows.

But the view takes us to the altar, where there is a beautiful stained glass window that is illuminated by the sun where Jesus Christ is located and the main sculpture of Saint Rita of Cascia.

Before touring the temple, I looked for the sculpture that motivated me to visit it, I immediately found it, it is just to the left of the entrance, in a small chapel with the sculpture, this work is in a glass urn for protection, I did not hesitate to recognize it because it has the characteristic stamp of its sculptor Rita Longa.

The story goes that it was not accepted by the ecclesiastical hierarchy because it was not in accordance with the established canons, I think it is due to the sensuality that emanates from this sculpture, which is a characteristic of the work of this Cuban sculptor, always bringing femininity and sensuality to her works, that is why I like it so much.

Inside the parish there are several small chapels dedicated to other deities, including the Caridad del Cobre, patron saint of Cuba, which is why she is accompanied by the Cuban flag.

I am very pleased to have seen the sculpture made by Rita Longa and I was also very pleasantly impressed with the beauty of this contemporary church that is simple but very beautiful and welcoming and above all there is an atmosphere of great peace and silence that invites you to meditate. It is my wish that you have enjoyed it too.

See you soon!
