Hello my traveling friends, today I want to show you some architectural, cultural and historical jewels that Havana's Calzada del Vedado Avenue has, this street has a lot of history, each house, corner or park tells its story that begins at the end of the nineteenth century, although most of the constructions were made from the first decades of the twentieth century.
This street is very close to the Havana boardwalk, running parallel to the boardwalk on one side and to Línea Avenue on the other, which are the best known and busiest roads because they are the main arteries of the city.
I found it very interesting to get to know Calzada Street more closely, which is also called 7th Street. During my tour I have come across important buildings, theaters and also shops that are flourishing.
One of its ends begins in the vicinity of the 5th Avenue tunnel, it is a beautiful area where we can see the sea, it is a great view of the bay of Havana, in this area there are many trees that are tolerant to the saline climate, among them we see pines, palm trees and coconut trees that complement the beautiful coastal landscape.
On this avenue, at the intersection with 4th Street, there is a house of great historical significance because it treasures all the extensive work of our apostle José Martí, all his manuscripts and photographs. His son José Francisco Martí lived here until 1945 and then it became the Center for Martí Studies to perpetuate the work of this great and most illustrious of Cubans.
In a house next door is the Martí Program Office that is dedicated to the dissemination of the life, work and thought of José Martí, exhibiting on its façade the beautiful phrase of Martí “IN HONORING, WE HONOR…” of a deep meaning.
As I continue walking I find a park between Paseo and 2 streets, it is wide with many benches and the garden cared for with young plants, it is a newly built park, it does not have leafy trees so on sunny days like today it is impossible to sit on its benches, it would be more pleasant at night so that the sun does not punish us.
I was struck by the 2 columns that correspond to the remains of an old construction and following my hobby of research I learned that it belonged to the Hotel Trotcha, the first to be built in this nascent neighborhood at the beginning of the twentieth century. It is known that it was very visited by great personalities of that time. A great fire destroyed it, then the onslaught of hurricanes ended with the remains that remained of this hotel, only these two columns remain to remember its existence. For this reason this park is called Trotcha ParK.

A cultural jewel of this avenue is the Hubert de Blanck Theatre on Calzada and B. Inside, this theatre has a large stage with an excellent atmosphere that allows us to enjoy very good plays.
I am a lover of theatre and I have seen many plays here of great quality in their staging and the performances of the actors of this company are spectacular.
These days they are putting on the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, we have already seen it before and I totally recommend it for its excellent quality.
A destroyed jewel
At the intersection of Calzada and D streets I find myself with the unpleasant surprise of seeing destroyed an architectural jewel designed for music, the Amadeo Roldán Auditorium Theater dating from 1928, this theater had a capacity for 2500 spectators and first-class acoustics.
The building was beautiful, but it had a sad history. In 1977 it was almost totally destroyed by fire, was closed for 20 years and reopened in April 1999 to devote itself entirely to concert music as the headquarters of the National Symphony Orchestra.
Currently it has a high degree of deterioration, although you can still see the details that adorn its structure, we see the names of famous musicians on the frieze such as Handel Chopin, Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Verdi. It is a pity that in such a short time it has been destroyed in such a way, I hope that it will be restored again to the delight of all.

I would like it to shine again as before.
And I leave for the end the main jewel of this avenue and that still retains all its splendor, it is the Hotel Roc Presidente, which is located on the corner of the central Avenue of the Presidents. It is distinguished from afar by its height and its beautiful red color that stands out against the green vegetation of its surroundings.
This hotel with 10 floors was the tallest building in Cuba when it was inaugurated in 1928, it still retains the style and interior decoration of its time, it has a high heritage value for all the museum objects that it has at the service and enjoyment of its guests, it is a true relic. I invite you to visit it, I am sure you will like it.

Joyas pasadas y presentes de la Avenida Calzada
Hola mis amigos viajeros, hoy les quiero mostrar algunas joyas arquitectónicas, culturales e históricas que tiene la avenida Calzada del Vedado habanero, esta calle tiene mucha historia, cada casa, esquina o parque cuenta su historia que comienza a finales del siglo XIX, aunque la mayoría de las construcciones se realizaron a partir de las primeras décadas del siglo XX.
Esta calle es muy cercana al malecón habanero corre paralela al malecón por un lado y a la avenida Línea por otro, que son las vías más conocidas y transitadas por ser arterias principales de la ciudad.
Me ha resultado muy interesante conocer más de cerca la calle Calzada que también se nombra como calle 7ma. Durante mi recorrido me he encontrado con importantes edificios, teatros y también comercios que están floreciendo.
Uno de sus extremos comienza en las inmediaciones del túnel de 5ta Avenida, es una zona preciosa donde podemos ver el mar, es una gran vista de la bahía de La Habana, en esta zona abundan los árboles que son tolerantes al clima salino, entre ellos vemos pinos, palmeras y cocoteros que complementan el bello paisaje costero.
En esta avenida, en la intersección con la calle 4 hay una casa de mucho significado histórico porque en ella se atesora toda la extensa obra de nuestro apóstol José Martí, todos sus manuscritos y fotografías. Aquí vivió su hijo José Francisco Martí hasta 1945 y luego se convirtió en el Centro de Estudios Martianos para perpetuar la obra de este grandioso y más ilustre de los cubanos.
En una casa al lado está la Oficina del Programa Martiano que se dedica a la difusión de la vida, obra y pensamiento de José Martí, exhibiendo en su fachada la bella frase de Martí Honrar, honra, de un profundo significado.
Al seguir caminado me encuentro con un parque entre las calles Paseo y 2, es amplio con muchos bancos y el jardín cuidado con plantas jóvenes, es un parque recién construido, no tiene árboles frondosos por lo que en los días soleados como el de hoy es imposible sentarse en sus bancos, sería más agradable en las noches para que el sol no nos castigue.
Me llamó la atención las 2 columnas que corresponden a restos de una construcción antigua y siguiendo mi afición de investigar supe que pertenecía al Hotel Trotcha, el primero que se construyó en este barrio naciente a principios del siglo XX. Se conoce que fue muy visitado por grandes personalidades de ese tiempo. Un gran incendio lo destruyó, luego los embates de huracanes terminaron con los restos que quedaban de este hotel, solo quedan estas dos columnas para recordar su existencia. Por esta razón este parque se llama Parque Trotcha.

Una joya cultural de esta avenida es el Teatro Hubert de Blanck en Calzada y B. En su interior este teatro cuenta con un amplio escenario provisto de una excelente ambientación que nos permite disfrutar de muy buenas obras teatrales.
Yo soy amante del teatro y he visto muchas obras aquí de gran calidad en su puesta en escena y las actuaciones de los actores de esta compañía son espectaculares.
En estos días están poniendo la obra Romeo y Julieta de William Shakespeare, ya la vimos anteriormente y se las recomiendo totalmente por su excelente calidad.
Una joya destruída
En la intersección de la calle Calzada y D me encuentro con la desagradable sorpresa de ver destruida una joya arquitectónica desinada a la música, el Teatro Auditórium Amadeo Roldán que data de 1928, este teatro tenía una capacidad para 2500 espectadores y una acústica de primer nivel.
El edificio era precioso, pero tuvo una triste historia. En 1977 fue casi destruido totalmente por un incendio, estuvo cerrado por 20 años y se reabrió en abril de 1999 para dedicarse completamente a la música de concierto como sede de la Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional.
En la actualidad tiene un alto grado de deterioro, aunque aún se pueden apreciar los detalles que adornan su estructura, vemos los nombres de músicos famosos en el friso como Handel Chopin, Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Verdi. Es una pena que en tan corto tiempo se haya destruido de esa formOa, tengo la esperanza que lo vuelvan a restaurar para el deleite de todos.
Les comparto una foto de cuando se reabrió en 1999 que encontré en este sitio me gustaría que volviera a brillar como antes.
Y dejo para el final la principal joya de esta avenida y que aún conserva todo su esplendor, se trata del Hotel Roc Presidente, que se encuentra en la esquina de la céntrica avenida de los Presidentes. Se distingue desde lejos por su altura y su bello color rojo que resalta sobre la verde vegetación de su entorno.
Este hotel con 10 pisos fue el edificio más alto de Cuba cuando se inauguró en 1928, aún conserva el estilo y la decoración interior de su época, tiene un alto valor patrimonial por todos los objetos museísticos que tiene al servicio y disfrute de sus huéspedes, es una verdadera reliquia. Los invito a que lo visiten, estoy segura que les gustará.
