ENGLISH VERSION

Hello, traveling friends. Today I want to share with you an experience that blends nostalgia, art, and poetry in a place in Havana that holds so many memories: San Rafael Boulevard in Havana.

Walking along this pedestrian boulevard in Central Havana always stirs a mixture of emotions in me. As I walked along it, I relived those years when this street was full of life: movie theaters for adults and children, shops with windows full of options, and happy people walking and enjoying the surroundings.

Today, the landscape is different. The movie theaters have closed, the shops barely offer any merchandise, and the decline is evident. However, this place is still crying out for a little love… a love that, even if it costs money, would be worth giving to restore its splendor.

For the past five years, the entrance to the boulevard on Prado Street has held a special charm: the bronze sculpture The Kiss. That figure, so full of tenderness and spontaneity, always manages to bring a smile to my face. For me, it's like a small touch of freshness amidst the decay, and I never miss a chance to photograph it.

Just as I was drifting off into those thoughts, something caught my attention. From the sidewalk, some works of art instantly captured my attention. It was the Collage Habana Gallery, a space that, against all odds, shone with its own light.

The doorman, noticing my astonishment, invited me in with a smile: "Come in, it's free." And so, unplanned, I entered the exhibition of Cuban artist Jesús Lara Sotelo.

Jesús Lara is a versatile artist, showcasing his work in a wide variety of formats, including painting, sculpture, ceramics, and prints. We can also see how he fuses techniques and materials, combining traditional techniques with his own innovations to create unique creations, allowing us to enjoy luxurious contemporary art.

But what surprised me most was how his poems dialogued with each work. Beside each piece, a poem deepened its meaning, exploring themes such as everyday life and human emotions.

The exhibition, titled "I Was My Own Worst Abyss", is a retrospective of a difficult period in the artist's life. Each work conveys such an intense emotional charge that it's impossible not to be moved. I was absorbed, reading his verses, observing the strokes, letting each piece tell me its story.

Also on display at the gallery entrance were some of her poetry collections, which I could browse and read. In them, she addresses life themes, and the influence of her personal experiences is evident, transforming pain, illness, and everyday hardships into masterfully written poems.

Without a doubt, I enjoyed a few moments filled with great art and poetry. I was deeply impressed by this exhibition; each work conveys an emotional intensity that made me reflect; his art moved me from the first moment.

I hope you enjoyed checking out this gallery. Would you like to visit it in person? I recommend this visit to you. I'll read your thoughts in the comments!

See you soon!
