International Book Fair in the Morro Cabaña (Eng/Esp)

I recently had the wonderful opportunity to visit the International Book Fair in Havana, held every year with its main venue at Morro Cabaña. A cultural site loaded with history and tradition for the Cuban people. Havana would not be Havana without the customary 9 p.m. cannon shot that takes place every day at the Morro Cabaña. A beautiful tradition bequeathed by the colonial times, where the cannon shot was the announcement of the closing of the wall of gates that surrounded the city, to defend us from the imminent siege of corsairs and pirates. Paradoxically, today this is the same site chosen to break down barriers and establish bridges between nations through culture, art and literature.

The International Book Fair is the ideal place for lovers of the sweet aroma of the pages of a good book to spend a different day. Between the cobblestones and the hustle and bustle of the crowd, they can acquire the most precious good of every good reader: a book. If anything made the afternoon special, it was going with one of my best friends and companions on this journey we call "life". Many here know her, I am referring to @indipnash91.

My friend @indipnash91 and I left the fair happy. We managed to get our hands on some treasures of Russian literature. In particular I went for a book of short stories by Chekhov. And as I leafed through its pages, it became clear to me why it is an all-time classic. Every story I read is a real gem. I also bought other books, such as one on language gags, which I found very interesting, and I also bought a mystery novel that my brother had ordered for me.

While the focus was on books, there were many stalls selling a variety of items, from souvenirs to office supplies, crafts, jewelry. There were places where they dramatized some literary works and I loved the places that were decorated in a thematic way.
There was no lack of gastronomic offerings either, there was a wide variety of products. But what I enjoyed the most in this sense was the coffee, since Biocubacafé had a stand where they offered coffee made on the spot with a machine that ground the beans. The delicious aroma in the air was indescribable.

And to close with a golden brooch @indipnash91 and I bought some very nice friendship bracelets as a souvenir. They have the curious detail that they come magnetized. In such a way that each bracelet has half of a heart and when you put them together they form one. I thought it was a very nice detail and a symbol of our friendship.

I am so thankful for the blessed day we had at the Book Fair. Something I'm really excited about is that @indipnash91 and I agreed to exchange the books we bought once we finish reading them. And you guys love to visit the Book Fair too?

This story is fascinating. I am particularly interested in the cannon. How loud is it at night? Is it high up or low down? I really wanted to see it, you know? Have you tried their coffee?

The 9 p.m. cannon shot is heard very loud. It is a ceremony that many local people and tourists come to see. It allows us to go back to colonial times, because those who officiate the ceremony are dressed in the uniforms worn by the soldiers at that time. As a curious fact, the original time for the cannon shot was at 8 p.m. and not at 9 p.m. as we do now.
The coffee was delicious my friend, I recommend it!!!! Thank you very much for your comment.

Thanks for the wonderful description. I wish I could have such an incredible experience. I love learning about local traditions and history; your blog and your comment really brought it to life. The coffee sounds so interesting but .... I am miles and miles away.

Where are you from? I hope that if one day you come to visit Cuba you will be able to visit the Morro Cabaña complex, as well as other places of tourist interest that we have in the city.

I am from the Island of Mindanao, Philippines. I am eager to visit your place, especially Havana. Its rich history and the experience of hearing the canyon is worth visiting.

Ohhh how far away you live. I wish you could come and visit Cuba. It is a place rich in culture, history and traditions and a beautiful destination for sun and beach tourism.

The story is very interesting, the place where the book exhibition is held is also very beautiful ❤️

That's right!!! It is a beautiful place. I love its architecture, it is as if time has stopped in the Morro Cabaña complex, with its cobblestone streets. I love that place! Thanks for reading and commenting, best regards.

Besitos.
