At the end of 2023, we took simple yet meaningful family trip. As wandered through Banská Bystrica, Žilina, and then continued our journey to Prague together.
Our first destination was Banská Bystrica and it is one of the historic gems in central Slovakia Aya and I had our longest train ride. And we traveled from Komárno to Banská Bystrica up to Prague by train. Banská Bystrica is small city and full of charm.

When we arrived, we were amazed of the superb train station at the Železničná stanica Banská Bystrica or Banská Bystrica Railway Station. Because it felt like walking into a historical gallery, especially the impressive artwork within its main hall. The stained glass windows with the glowing walls frame highlight Central Slovakia’s past. It was all grandeur and gold. architectural design.

After a long journey, we dropped our luggage's and took some rest in our apartment. And we finally hit the streets of Banská Bystrica in the afternoon.

After our rest and despite the cold weather, we were excited to explore the city. In front of our apartment, a well-preserved buildings with its warm shades of colors. And walking in the pedestrian street felt so peaceful and inviting. The building felt like entering a postcard come alive. The more we walked and the daylight slowly faded bringing the cool evening air surrounded us.
Church of St. Elizabeth in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia

After our long day of traveling and exploring, we were craving for sushi.
We found a touch of magic in the main square for their Christmas Market. There was a big Christmas tree, food and drink stalls and some attractions. The kids rode on a charming carousel. A perfect and beautiful night in the main square.

People were gathered around the Main Square, chatting with family and friends, taking photos and especially enjoying the night. The Main Square had a lively but peaceful atmosphere. It was surrounded by the old buildings and that night looked even more charming.

We also visited a church nearby named St. Francis Xavier Cathedral. With its grand and welcoming tall pillars. Above the entrance, "VENITE ADOREMUS DOMINUM" in a Latin inscription which means to "Come, let us adore the Lord." There was an evening mass that time and that was the only photo I have. The church has its slender spire and considered one of the most beautiful Baroque sacral monuments in Slovakia.

We decided to unwind and enjoy the gentle evening vibes of the Main Square. Kids and I. we picked up hot chocolates and my husband grabbed a classic beer. When the evening winds grew colder and we returned to our apartment. We ended the lovely night feeling thankful and we looked forward to what the next day would bring.
