San Juan de Unare and El Cocal Beach Beach [Esp-Eng]

San Juan de Unare is a remote little town that I had the pleasure of visiting, a place surrounded by beautiful beaches that are part of the Paria Peninsula National Park, a place characterized by crystal clear waters everywhere and where many houses in the area are just a few meters from the beach. In my case, I traveled with my mom for a little over 14 hours by bus, a complicated trip from my point of view, due to the rains at the time and other factors.

Even so, when we arrived after all those hours of travel, I realized that it had been worth all the time it took us to get there, because the views alone are a 10/10. The house we stayed in was right next to the river and in front of the port of San Juan de Unare, which is right on the seashore, where the fishing boats and those going to other beaches also depart. Just to give you an idea of the quality of people in this town, the fishermen often stopped by to leave fish for my brother who lived there, so while we were there we ate a lot of fish.

San Juan de Unare es un pueblito lejano que tuve la dicha de conocer, un lugar rodeado de playas hermosas que forman parte del Parque nacional península de paria, un lugar que se caracteriza por tener playas de aguas cristalinas por todas partes y que incluso muchas casas de la zona, tienen a solo unos pocos metros de su casa. En mi caso, viajé con mi mamá durante un poco más de 14 horas en autobús, un viaje complicado desde mi punto de vista, debido a las lluvias de la fecha y demás.

Aún así, cuando llegamos después de todas esas horas de viaje me di cuenta de que había valido la pena todo el tiempo que nos tomó llegar, porque solo las vistas son un 10/10. La casa en la que nos quedamos estaba justo al lado del río y frente al puerto de San Juan de Unare, que es solo la orilla del mar, desde donde salen las lanchas pesqueras y las que van a otras playas también, solo para que se hagan una idea de la calidad de personas que hay en este pueblo, muchas veces los pescadores conocidos pasaban dejándole pescado a mi hermano que vivía ahí, así que mientras estuvimos ahí comimos bastante pescado.

Something that really scared me during the first few days was when it rained, because my mind made me imagine some extreme scenarios, such as river flooding or something else, but fortunately that fear passed and in the end none of that happened. Although this beach was right in front of us, we didn't swim there because boats came in, so we had to walk a few meters to the left or right, and there was a beach on both sides.

But the beach we visited the most was Playa Los Cocos, which is a beautiful, super blue beach that impressed me a lot when I saw it for the first time. We swam there almost every afternoon until we got tired. If we walked a little further, there was a kind of reef that I never actually saw because I'm too scared to try it. But even the children born in Unare swam as if it were nothing, although I must say that the waves were a little strong for what I'm used to. Even so, I was happy to sit on the rocks and watch the waves and the mist they left behind. It was impressive to see.

Algo que la verdad si me lleno de miedo los primeros días, era cuando llovia porque mi mente me hacía imaginar algunos escenarios extremos, como crecidas de rio u otra cosa, pero felizmente ese temor se me fue pasandfo y al final nada de eso ocurrió. Aunque esta playa estaba justo en frente, no nos bañamos en ella porque ahí llegaban las lanchas, así que debíamos caminar unos cuantos metros más a la izquierda o a la derecha, y había playa de ambos lados.

Pero la playa que más visitamos fue playa el cocal, que es una hermosa playa súper azul que cuando la vi por primera vez, me impresionó muchísimo, en ella nos bsñabamos casi todas las tardes, hasta que nos cansabamos, si caminábamos un poco más había una especie de arrecife qué la verdad nunca vi, porque soy demasiado miedosa como para intentarlo, pero incluso los niños nacidos en Unare, nadaban como si nada, aunque debo decir que el oleaje era un poco fuerte para lo que yo acostumbro. Aun así, fui feliz de sentarme en las piedras y observar las olas y la bruma que dejaba en ella, era algo impresionante de ver.

These rocks were large and reached a certain point in the sea, forming a small natural viewpoint, where mussels clung tightly. One day, we ate fresh mussels that my brother dared to climb down and collect from the rocks. So the experience on that beach was the best, I really liked it, even though my fear and not knowing how to swim prevented me from enjoying it to the fullest.

Something that also impressed me a lot was the fact that it was the same sea. Sometimes only the rocks separated it, and other times there was nothing separating it, but even so, they seemed like different places. One had stronger waves than the other, the other had a different shade of blue, perhaps because of the depth, and the temperature was also different. So even though it was the same sea, they were still totally different places, each unique in its own way, which also made the experience varied.

Estas piedras que eran grandes y llegaban hasta cierto punto del mar, era como un pequeño mirador natural, en el que se pegaban mejillones fuertemente, se hecho uno de esos días comimos mejillones frescos que fueron agarrados con mi hermano que se atrevió a bajarse y tomarlos de las piedras. Así que la experiencia en esa playa fue lo máximo, me gustó mucho, aun cuando el temor y el no saber nadar no me permitió disfrutarla al máximo.

Algo que me impresionó también muchísimo, fue el hecho de que se trataba del mismo mar, a veces lo separaban solo las piedras y otras veces no había nada que hiciera separaciones, pero aún así, parecían sitios distintos, uno tenía el oleaje más fuerte que el otro, el otro tenía otro tono de azul diferente quizá por la profundidad y también la temperatura era distinta, así que aunque se trataba del mismo mar, aun así, eran sitios totalmente diferentes, cada uno único a su modo y hacían de la experiencia también variada.

What I liked most about this place was that all those beaches were just a few minutes away from where we were staying. I had literally never slept so close to a beach before, and I loved the experience. At night, I would fall asleep listening to the waves, which was incredibly relaxing. It was spectacular to sit in front of the house at night and gaze at the starry sky. Being so far away, when there was a full moon, the light seemed more intense than in other places and reflected off the sea, filling everything with natural light.

Lo que más me gustó de este lugar es que todas esas playas estaban a solo unos minutos de donde nos estábamos quedando, literalmente nunca había dormido tan cerca de una playa y la experiencia me gustó, pues por las noches me quedaba dormida escuchando las olas del mar y era algo súper relajante, por las noches, era todo un espectáculo sentarnos en el frente de la casa a ver el cielo estrellado, al ser un lugar tan lejano, cuando había luna llena la luz parecía más intensa que en otros sitios y se reflejaba en el mar llenando de esa luz natural todo.
