Monte Barreto Ecological Park, a delightful blend of nature and recreation [eng/spa]

If you are planning a trip to Havana and want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, the Monte Barreto Ecological Park is a fantastic option. Located in the Playa municipality, this park is a true green lung that offers the opportunity to enjoy nature without going too far from downtown.
Although it has been almost three years since I moved near this place, I visited it for the first time last May, when I went to take some pictures with some friends, and from that day on, I was fascinated by this place.

Si estás planeando un viaje a La Habana y quieres escapar un poco del bullicio de la ciudad, el Parque Ecológico Monte Barreto es una opción fantástica. Ubicado en el municipio Playa, este parque es un verdadero pulmón verde que ofrece la oportunidad de disfrutar de la naturaleza sin alejarte demasiado del centro.
Les cuento que a pesar de que ya se cumplen casi tres años de haberme mudado cerca de este lugar, lo visité por primera vez el pasado mes de mayo, cuando fui a tomar unas fotos con unos amigos, y desde ese día, quedé fascinada con ese sitio.

At its entrance, the park has a huge sculpture that seems to be carved in stone, and from my point of view, represents a large bird opening its wings to take flight. I think it was excellent to choose this work of art to welcome visitors at the entrance to the park.
One of the great attractions of Monte Barreto Park is its vegetation and the presence of native birds. This is a green place, ideal for botany lovers. Although I did not manage to capture any birds in photos, I was able to see some people with binoculars observing them, and I enjoyed on several occasions the fluttering of some butterflies.

En su entrada, el parque tiene una enorme escultura que parece tallada en piedra, y que desde mi punto de vista, representa un gran pájaro que abre sus alas para emprender el vuelo. Considero que fue excelente escoger esta obra de arte para que reciba al visitante a su entrada al lugar.
Una de los grandes atractivos del parque Monte Barreto es su vegetación y la presencia de aves autóctonas. Este es un lugar verde, ideal para los amantes de la botánica. Aunque no alcancé a capturar en fotos ningún pájaro, si pude ver algunas personas con binoculares observando los mismos, y disfruté en varias ocasiones del revoloteo de algunas mariposas.

In Monte Barreto there are also areas for children's enjoyment, such as the amusement park located on the side of the main entrance. This space is the favorite of the little ones at home.
The park also has basic services such as restrooms and rest areas, which makes it a comfortable place to spend the day. I also found a cafeteria with Creole food, where the service employees welcome you with a friendly smile and professional attention.

En Monte Barreto también existen áreas destinadas al disfrute infantil, como lo es el parque de atracciones que se encuentra justo en un lateral de su entrada principal. Este espacio es el preferido de los pequeños de casa.
El parque cuenta además con servicios básicos como baños y zonas de descanso, lo que lo convierte en un lugar cómodo para pasar el día. Encontré también una cafetería con comida criolla, donde los dependientes de servicios te reciben con una sonrisa amable y una atención profesional.

One of the most interesting things about this park is its network of trails. There are well-marked and accessible paths that invite you to walk, run or even ride a bike. You can enjoy a good time alone, as a couple or with the family. In addition, there are areas with benches and picnic tables that are perfect for stopping for a picnic lunch in the open air.
Although it is currently out of operation, the most entertaining part of the park for me is the canopy, which is quite small compared to the one I already know, located in Trinidad. Una de las cosas más interesantes de este parque es su red de senderos. Hay caminos bien marcados y accesibles que invitan a pasear, correr o incluso montar en bicicleta. Puedes disfrutar de un buen rato solo, en pareja o con la familia. Además, hay áreas con bancos y mesas de picnic que son perfectas para hacer una parada y almorzar algo rico al aire libre.
Aunque actualmente está fuera de funcionamiento, lo más entretenido para mí de todo el parque, es el canopy. Este es bastante pequeño si se compara con el que ya conozco, que está ubicado en Trinidad, pero igualmente no deja de resultarme divertido. ¡Espero que vuelva a entrar en funcionamiento muy pronto!

Monte Barreto is also home to cultural events and recreational activities. Throughout the year, there are fairs, workshops and outdoor shows that make the park a vibrant place. So there's always something going on if you decide to take a stroll. Checking the local agenda can help you coincide your visit with some of these activities.
