Welcome to less than sunny Bamberg, it has so far been a rather wet and very mild trip, the big golden ball has been hovering elsewhere.
Yes I am praying for warmth and dryness too.
Bamberg is an ancient town in Bavaria, Germany, it was founded in the 9th century.
With its enchanting cobbled streets and impressive architecture it is seen as one of Germany's most beautiful towns.
It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993.
The town was bombed a total of nine times by allied planes between 1944/45, it escaped lightly as far as damage with less than 5% destruction. However 378 civilians, innocent men, women and children were murdered.
The Greek God Appollo, is a 2009 sculpture which cost £140k....The work by artist Markus Lüpertz classed as a modern sculpture is controversial among the people of Bamberg, it is plain to see it doesn't represent what we actually associate with the Greek god.
I agree it does resemble "morph", a plasticine animation charachter from british kids Tv from the 1980's . Cost about 69p
A bronze sculpture entitled Centurione I, was created in 1987 symbolising both the "imperfection of the human body and its fragility."
Bamberg is apparently famous for its production of smoked beer, there are a couple of breweries and hostelries producing and serving the stuff, didn't appeal to be honest.
Some might guffaw behind a raised hand, but I think wow what a cool name.
