As every year until now, with the first signs of spring, the lengthening of the days and the increase of daily temperatures, like this weekend, when the mercury in the thermometer rose to 22°C, when the air smells a bit like summer, I think of vacationing.
Where to go for summer vacation?
Individually or in the organization of an agency?
Somehow, individual tourism is still my first choice.
When we organize ourselves, it's true, we have to think a little more actively about our vacation, where, how, where, but that's why the experience we have with such a vacation is much more intense.
As one of those vacations, the summer we spent in Greece, on the Ionian Sea, will remain in my memory for a long time.
Located near Parga, we visited different beaches by car every day. And as a highlight of the whole vacation, I would single out a tour of Lefkada, an island about 100 km from the place where we were staying.
While driving over the hills of Lefkada from one side of the island to the other, you are so high that you cannot see the sea from the clouds. It's like you're on top of a high mountain...
Lefkada, an island with many small fishing villages and over 10 famous beaches.
Some of the beaches are landscaped, some can be reached by car, and some of them are listed in the catalogs of world-famous beaches as "must see".
We focused on a few of them, asked around a bit, looked at the pictures and comments of some friends who had already stayed there and after arriving in Lefkada, headed to one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece, but also in the whole world.
The farthest and most beautiful beach of Lefkada, Porto Katsiki.
Lucky for us, we were well informed when choosing the beach to go to, because this beach, apart from the parking space, does not have any facilities.
There are no sunbeds available, some kiosks with juices, water or food, not even a toilet...
But that's why it has marathon-long stairs that take you down to the beach, as well as a beautiful viewpoint, from which you can enjoy a magnificent view.
Due to its inaccessibility, the beach is by no means for parents with small children, so it is almost impossible to hear babies crying.
You can hear the noise of children playing, but these are children whose parents will not carry them up the stairs when they go home, they are old enough to walk alone.
When you see how loaded I was and what I took with me (as if I were a Himalayan Sherpas climbing Mount Everest), you will understand that it would be impossible to carry a child in arms.
The water on the beach is crystal clear, and made of white pebbles and limestone rocks, transparent and turquoise in color.
And cold as ice.
The water is so cold that only younger children who can't resist the challenge of splashing around spend a long time in the water. so long, that when they come out of the water, their lips are blue, and they shake as if in a trance... It was enough for us that we got wet a couple of times and that way we refreshed ourselves enough. we decided that enjoying the view was more suitable than soaking in the ice water.
That was the reason why we didn't spend a lot of time in the water, but instead lay in the shade, walked and took photos "For all time".
I put the photos we took together in the album "When a picture speaks more than 1000 words".
