Trust me, my wife was witness to me hitting a lot of trees. I think at one point she even started giving me some crap about it. I've played some really great courses this past year.

i hit them so hard sometimes that I am impressed with the very durable materials the discs are made of. In the years I spent involved with the sport I only ever shattered a single disc.
I've never shattered a disc, but I have some nicks out of the edge of many of my discs.
