When we have little time to visit a beautiful city, we always try to visit the old and new areas of said locality. Today I had the privilege of traveling to the north of Portugal, exactly in the northwest of Spain, towards the community of Galicia. There is one of the most beautiful cities in Spain, recognized for its famous lighting events on Christmas Day. And of course, I am referring to Vigo. Between labyrinths, squares, landscapes, and large buildings, I bring you a post to show you its most beautiful side.⛵🏢

My experience from the beginning🧭🚩/Mi experiencia desde el comienzo🌍

First tip: (bring lots of change) because parking in Vigo is the most complicated thing I've seen!! Look, they have private parking, but it's expensive. You can spend more than 20 euros a day on parking, so if you're going on a low-cost trip, you should be aware of this! What we did was go to McDonald's, leave the car there, visit everything we had planned, and on the way back, we had dinner there! You have to use money to validate your exit ticket at the restaurant! Didn't that seem like a good strategy to you? Hehe, from there everything was less than 3km away.⛔

Our first stop was to climb "Monte Castro" where we can locate the castle and/or fortress, this is a huge hill over 100 meters high where what was once the castle and is currently a fortress is located, I already published about it so I recommend you see my post! However, I think the best from here are the views, we can even appreciate the small islands in the river, we can make a stop and rest, after the fortress we will visit: "Castro de Vigo" some very ancient ruins of the first people who inhabited the city.🏢⛵

Iron Age👨🏻🏫
Vigo is as old as any other city in Portugal or Spain itself. It was inhabited as early as 3,000 BC by a prehistoric culture who built these very rudimentary houses. We have this space where we can walk among the "replicas of houses" and at the same time photograph the ruins directly. This is almost always closed; you have to be very lucky to find it open.🌍

I was doing some research and just like what happened in Portugal, the area was later occupied by the Romans. Well, actually, the Iberian Peninsula belonged to the Romans. And it strikes me that when we visit places like this, it's not all about apartments and decorated streets; there's also a great backstory!🧭🗺️

It has always been known for being a port, especially the outlet of the Vigo River to the Atlantic! And that made it a very important city throughout Spain for trade. It has beautiful beaches, history, and good cuisine. The prices aren't too high; I'd even say they're similar to those in Portugal. That's why you have no excuse not to travel to this beautiful city!🗺️🧭
Walk through the streets🧭🚩/Paseo entre las calles🌍

I think the number of tourists in Vigo depends on the time of year. For example, I visited after the Christmas lights, and the streets were much emptier, with few tourists. I felt quite safe! We never felt threatened. Of course, it wasn't nighttime and we were in the city center. Spain is much more dangerous than Portugal, but in places like this, you can wander freely. We decided to try some sweets.✍🏻🧭
Decidimos probar algunos dulces.🚩🏢
I don't know if turrones are typical of Vigo, but we discovered this small shop and bought several to take home as souvenirs.🍧🍩

We used the escalators to go up the street because it's quite steep, hehe. Among the things they recommend, Casco Vello or "old town" and also the historic quarter. I think I visited both today, but I have no idea which is which, hehe, because the city is too big! There's an area that's just apartments and really has nothing attractive about it. I think that's the modern area!😋😮

Would I return to Vigo?🧭🚩/Volveria a Vigo?🌍

It's unfair to rate a city in just a couple of hours, clearly Vigo has a lot to offer, in my short experience I have the feeling of coming back, that's why I would repeat my trip to the city. I couldn't try its gastronomy but that would be something I have to do! When we are parents we have to improvise xD, we don't have much time, visiting museums is also something I would like to do!😋😮🚩
