Words: parking, time, sand, merit, agile, self, rifle.
David and Daniel were standing arm in arm on the balcony of their desert villa, looking at the view of the sand dunes.
Daniel:
"These hills have been repeatedly altered by the wind over time."
"Like us humans who are constantly being tossed this way and that by the flood of events."
Daniel took a close look at David's pale face and bruised eyelids and put his hand on his cheek and said in a loving tone:
"You don't seem to be doing well. We've been having a hard time fighting desert vampires lately, you must be under a lot of pressure, go and rest."
David smiled sheepishly.
"I always wished my merit were as much as yours. Not just physically, but mentally. To be agile and not be fooled by temptation."
"My dear David, you underestimate yourself. There are things in you that not everyone can easily have."
Tears welled up in David's eyes
"Are you serious?"
"Of course. It was you who made me understand that vampires are not made of pure evil and that there is still humanity in them.
You know, I thought a lot about your words and decided that from now on my main goal is not to destroy vampires, but to awaken the humanity in them."
David started sobbing.
"You really made that decision?"
Daniel looked at him worriedly.
"Yes, dear, but why are you crying?"
David smiled tearfully.
"It's nothing, I just got emotional."
Daniel hugged him.
"My love."
They stayed like that for a while and then David told Daniel he was going to the parking lot to check their rifles and make sure they were in good working order for their battle tonight.
He went to the parking lot and went to the gun storage box, opened the door and took out one of the rifles, held it in both hands for a few moments and stared at it, and then put its barrel on his heart.
"Dear Daniel, I'm not ready to tell you the truth yet. But I know I don't have much time left, my human cells are quickly being overwhelmed by the vampire cells in my body, and soon I'll turn into one of those monsters that we were fighting all these years.
But I promise you one thing. I will do my best to keep humanity in me, and if I fail, I will shoot myself in the heart with this gun before I hurt you."
