This week's ZAPFIC Monday challenge centers around the prompt "ladder" and presented the opportunity to share a story exploring the term made popular with a say "climbing the corporate ladder" when referring to one's ambition or desire to rise in any employment situation. Working in a corporate environment for over thirty-five years, I understand the phrase to mean a negative view of a co-worker.
Sometimes the negative view can derive from jealousy or other feelings toward others if a situation is deemed to be unfavorable or the outcome not what one expects. This can happen in cases of one person perceived to be the recipient of preferential treatment or securing a position another person covets.
I've seen and heard numerous conversations and complaints putting forth reasons for discontent on both sides. And it's not a pleasant experience, especially being the recipient of those complaints.
The ZAPFICMonday challenge was created by @felt.buzz and consists of a story told in 240 characters or less. Quite a feat to accomplish. If you're interested, visit the current challenge post:
My story is below:
Dismayed, Marlon purposely stared at the hospital wall, his bandaged eye pulsing.
"I was referring to a success ladder," his wife ranted.
He could avoid her disgusted glare; not her stinging words.
Climbing to grasp a better view wasn't clear.

El desafío del lunes de ZAPFIC de esta semana se centra en la palabra «escalera» y ofrece la oportunidad de compartir una historia que explore el término popularizado con la expresión «subir la escalera corporativa» cuando se refiere a la ambición o el deseo de ascender en cualquier situación laboral. Tras más de treinta y cinco años trabajando en un entorno corporativo, entiendo que la frase tiene una connotación negativa hacia un compañero de trabajo.
