The Fear of Helping Others in Today’s World

We live in a world where good people hesitate to offer help to those in need, whether for security reasons or personal concerns. Unfortunately, this fear often prevents acts of kindness that could make a difference in someone’s life.

What I See

In the image, I saw a motorcyclist riding past another person walking in the rain. The pedestrian was drenched, while the rider sped by without stopping. While I can’t entirely blame the biker’s decision, it reflects a harsh reality, we live in times where trust is fragile. One must be cautious about whom they choose to help, as some might take advantage of kindness.

How I Feel

This scene reminded me of how difficult life can be, especially on rainy days. People step out to hustle, hoping to earn a living, only to be met with unexpected challenges. On such days, small traders struggle as heavy rain discourages customers, who often prefer the comfort of shopping malls over street vendors. The reality is tough, and everyone is simply trying to survive.

A Rainy Day in Uyo

In the bustling city of Uyo, a hardworking man made his living selling fresh fruits and vegetables. His customers loved him because his produce was always fresh, and he took pride in his work.

One market day, he eagerly set up his stall, hoping for good sales as usual. The morning sun rose beautifully, giving him hope for a successful day. But fate had other plans. By afternoon, dark clouds gathered, and soon, the rain poured heavily.

With no shelter nearby, he hurriedly gathered his goods and perched under a makeshift cover, waiting for the rain to subside. He watched helplessly as potential customers hurried past, avoiding the rain instead of stopping by to buy from him. His heart grew heavy.

Eventually, realizing the rain wasn’t stopping anytime soon, he decided to head home. He balanced his goods on his shoulders and trudged through the flooded streets, his clothes soaked, his spirit low.
As he walked, a motorcyclist passed him, heading in the same direction. Desperate for help, he called out to the biker, hoping for a ride home. But the rider didn’t stop, perhaps out of fear, or simply because he didn’t care.

The fruit seller sighed and continued his journey, thinking about how kindness had become rare in the world. Must we always suspect people of ill intentions?

Sometimes, those in need truly seek help, not harm.
If you ever find yourself in a position to help someone, please do. You never know, you might be helping an angel in disguise.
Thanks for reading. Have a lovely day.
