To Gerard, Mathematics was a language with no room for frivolous interpretation based on feelings or planetary alignment or anything of that nature. Sure, the same thing could be said many ways but the thing was still the thing. A quarter was 25 percent and would not ever be discovered, due to new evidence, to actually have the same value as a third.
In a world that was often very confusing, Math was an anchor of unwavering stability. Which was why he hated it when people attempted to use something so sacred as Math to lie.
Take this grocery store. They were offering a special “money saving" deal that actually cost the customer 7% more than buying each of the items individually. It was enough to make your blood boil. But the last time he had run through the aisles helpfully explaining to his fellow customers (with his trusty megaphone) that they were being had, he had somehow been labeled ‘the bad guy’.
He sighed. They weren't ready for the revolution.
