The comparison you have made between fire and romantic relationships is interesting, and it is true that when trust is lost, something breaks and it is no longer the same. I speak from personal experience when I say that romantic relationships are not the same; something is missing, an element, just as something is missing for the fire to continue burning.

I appreciate the awesome compliment for my fire design. Yes, in order for fire to burn, all three elements in the triangle must be present. Just like the three triangular elements of a relationship. If one side is broken away, what remains can't be sustained. People can insert other, more important qualities into the triangle that they feel can sustain a relationship. It's subjective to each couple. But I do feel that the most important element, trust, is essential. If trust is lost, it can be regained. But this is a long, slow process, if indeed it ever returns. Again, the situation is dependent upon the individuals involved and their tolerance levels.
