After a long time I have started watching anime again, I was really busy reading manhwa and reviwing them for a quite long time. Recently in my feed I have been seeing an anime for a long time and after seeing those short clips I got intrigued to watch this anime.
It's called "The Summer Hikaru Died" I think it has got very popular within a short time. So, I really wanted to give it a try. I already know the plot so I thought I won't be enjoying it but my mind changed when I started watching it.
So, there are 12 episodes and each episodes are 23 minutes and I think it's short so I didn't want to waste time thinking about it and started to watch it. Each episode it got better and better and now I'm in love with this anime.
After a long time I have watched something this good. I have heard there's a manga as well and they have successfully accomplished the manga version into anime. I think only a few animes could do that and I really enjoyed it very much.
The story begins with Yoshiki who is the bestfriend of Hikaru since childhood. Both of them were very fond of each other but one incident changed everything when Hikaru died and some other entity took his place.
The entity fully took over Hikaru's body and memories and no one could notice that he's not Hikaru. But Hikaru was the heart of Yoshiki and he already knew that he's not Hikaru but pretended to not know about it for a year.
When the new Hikaru found out he threatened Yoshiki to not tell anyone about it otherwise he will take Yoshiki's life. But Hikaru's body and mind always liked Yoshiki for that reason he was never able to harm Hikaru.
Yoshiki also found himself getting closer to the new Hikaru as he always liked him. On the other hand Yoshiki kept feeling guilty because after Hikaru arrived strange events started to take place in their small village. Impurities were causing people's death and creating chaos.
Well, I have only seen these type of stories in horror movies and it always looked creepy. The same goes for this anime, there is horror suspense and it is very intense. Might feel disgusting as they describe everything thoroughly.
In the beginning I didn't think it would be this intense but to be honest it looked unexpected turn. I really enjoyed every moment of it. People are calling it a BL but there's only a small part about them feeling for each other they whole anime is not about their romance or them loving each other.
It has psychological horror, so obviously it's gonna contain more horror stuff. As a BL lover I would say I didn't find anything BL in this as it's a small portion and I don't see this anime as BL and it's my personal opinion, I know everyone has different point of view and I respect that.
But for me still it's not a BL anime. If you don't like BL you can still watch this anime because there's nothing that serious to make you feel uncomfortable about it. There's BL stuff but the horror is mostly seen in the anime.
But if you don't like BL at all then don't watch it. I will definitely reccomend this anime if you are into psychological horror. The animation is just mindblowing watch the trailer and you will find out why it's so popular.
