A few days ago I saw on Facebook, a debate that several users had about whether the manga is better than the manwha, that I am, that that and, as I have been reading Villains Are Destined to Die, I thought it appropriate to talk about it and the differences of one with the other.
I do not remember exactly which was the first manga I read, I think it was naruto shippuden, I do not know, but if the manwha, which is entitled Who made me a princess, the colorful drawing, the plot, made me interesting and captivated me from the first chapter, I did not know of these Korean manga or also known as comic strips and graphic novels, I only know that, in that year, which was at the time of pandemic, I read many. Now, it is no secret that, despite the beautiful aesthetics that most of the manwhas have, where they not only attract and, but also do not exhaust visually, the composition, the sequence of the shots and the dynamics that the manga have are much more harmonious and better executed, or at least most of them.
Playing with the planes and giving drama is a very important point in graphic novels, or at least that's how I consider it, when you study graphic arts or plastic arts, as in my case, you take into consideration composition, rhythm, contrast, harmony, the rule of thirds and many other things that make the work of art speak for itself. In the case of comics and animation the same thing happens, to generate tension or evoke emotion through expressions and scenarios is not easy, so you have to use very well the elements present, control the perspectives and the sequence of compositional planes and thus, achieve a correct visual narrative, something that the reader values a lot, in addition to the proposed story.
This is not to say that there are no manwhas that don't carry those elements that fulfill a good visual narrative, for example, The Fantasie of a Stepmother that was written by Spice&Kitty and illustrated by ORKA (I love this illustrator), by God, I find it a manwha not only with an intriguing and deep story, but the illustration is extremely beautiful, theatrical in a sense, the emotions, how she channels the setting to bring us into the tension of the moment, in short it's a work worth seeing and reading. There are also manga that have been very difficult for me to read, as was the case of Jujutsu Kaisen, I like the story and all, but the drawing is heavy and I was very lost in the sequence of fights and all 😣.
For me, each one has its strengths and weaknesses, I like them both and I feel that the visual narrative factor plays an important point for me to continue watching them; just like Kusuriya, where there are two manga, one more famous than the other, or, rather, some prefer one over the other, either because of the adaptation to the novel or because of the graphic style it carries, which determines how much one is seen in reference to the other.
So, in this sense, manga in spite of everything is more popular and has a wider fan base, because as I mentioned, not only the stories are deeper and more popular, but the visual narrative is much better executed. However, the manwhas have reached a great boom in recent years, especially in some like Solo leveling or Who made me a princess, which have given much to talk about, so preferences are up to each one; Personally I like and admire both equally, it is not easy to illustrate, either in color or black and white, it takes me about 3 hours to make a simple drawing, I do not want to imagine those who have to draw a weekly chapter (in the case of manwhas) or with more depth in the plans and that is a month (in the case of mangas), so you have to give their respective credit to each one.

Hace unos días vi en Facebook, un debate que tenían varios usuarios sobre si que el manga es mejor que el manwha, que estoy, que aquello y, como he estado leyendo Villains Are Destined to Die, me pareció oportuno hablar de ello y las diferencias del uno con el otro.
No recuerdo exactamente cual fue el primer manga que leí, creo que fue naruto shippuden, no sé, pero si el manwha, el cual que se titula Who made me a princess, el dibujo colorido, la trama, se me hizo interesante y me cautivo desde el primer capítulo, desconocía de estos mangas coreanos o conocidos también como tiras cómicas y novelas gráficas, solo sé que, en ese año, que fue en época de pandemia, me leí muchos. Ahora bien, para nada es un secreto que, a pesar de la bella estética que porta la mayoría de los manwhas, donde no solo atraen y, sino que también no agotan visualmente, la composición, la secuencia de los planos y las dinámicas que tienen los mangas son mucho más armoniosos y mejor ejecutados, o por lo menos la gran parte de ellos.
Jugar con los planos y darle dramatismo, es un punto muy importante en las novelas gráficas, o por lo menos así lo considero, cuando se estudia artes graficas o artes plásticas, como en mi caso, se toma mucho en consideración composición, ritmo, contraste, armonía, la regla de los tercios y muchas otras cosas más, que hacen que la obra de arte hable por si sola. En el caso de los comics y de la animación sucede lo mismo, generar tensión o evocar emoción a través de expresiones y escenarios no es nada fácil, por ello hay que emplear muy bien los elementos presentes, controlar las perspectivas y la secuencia de los planos compositivos y así, lograr obtener una correcta narrativa visual, algo que el lector valora mucho, además de la historia planteada.
Esto no quiere decir que no hay manwhas que no porten esos elementos que cumplan de una buena narrativa visual, por ejemplo, la obra The Fantasie of a Stepmother que fue escrita por Spice&Kitty e ilustrada por ORKA (amo a esta ilustradora), por Dios, se me hace un manwha no solo con una historia intrigante y profunda, sino que la ilustración es sumamente hermosa, teatral en cierto sentido, las emociones, como canaliza la ambientación para adentrarnos a la tensión del momento, en definitiva es una obra digna de ver y leer. También hay mangas que se me han hecho muy difícil de leer, como fue el caso de Jujutsu Kaisen, me gusta la historia y todo ello, pero el dibujo se me hace pesado y me perdía mucho en la secuencia de las peleas y todo ello 😣.
Para mí, cada una tiene sus fortalezas y debilidades, ambas me gustan y siento que el factor de la narrativa visual juega un punto importante para que la continue viendo; así como Kusuriya, en donde hay dos mangas, una más famosa que la otra, o, mejor dicho, algunos prefieren una sobre la otra, sea tanto por la adaptación a la novela o por el estilo gráfico que porta, el cual determine que tan vista sea una con referencia a la otra.
Así que, en este sentido, el manga a pesar de todo es más popular y tiene su base de fan más amplia, porque como he mencionado, no solo las historias son más profundas y populares, sino que la narrativa visual esta mucho mejor ejecutada. Sin embargo, los manwhas han alcanzado un gran auge en los últimos años, sobre todo en algunos como Solo leveling o Who made me a princess, que han dado mucho de qué hablar, por lo que las preferencias van de cada quién; en lo personal ambas me gustan y las admiro por igual, no es fácil ilustrar, así sea a color o en blanco y negro, yo me tardo como 3 horas hacer un dibujo sencillo, no me quiero imaginar aquellos que tienen que sacar un capítulo semanal (en el caso de los manwhas) o con una profundidad más en los planos y que sea al mes (en el caso de los mangas), así que hay que darle su crédito respectivo a cada uno.
