I just watched one of the most recent movies from Ghibli Studios, one that was also mentioned a lot because of a controversy with a Colombian girl who claimed to have been part of the drawing staff, even though it wasn't true. I finally had time to sit down and watch this film and I found many elements to analyze.
Acabo de ver una de las películas más recientes de Los Estudios Ghibli, una que además fue muy mencionada a raiz de una controversia con una chica colombiana que afirmó haber formado parte del staff de dibujantes, a pesar de que eso no era cierto. Finalmente tuve tiempo para sentarme a mirar esta película y me encontré con muchos elementos para analizar.
The movie is about a boy, Mahito who moves in with his father and his aunt (his mother's sister who is now also his stepmother and is pregnant. I know, it's something very shady but anyway) Mahito refuses to go to school after suffering Bullying, his father neglects him a bit as he is handling his company's affairs all day long, while the boy is bored in a house full of old maids. On one occasion he follows in the footsteps of a heron that suddenly speaks to him revealing that his mother was still alive but in another dimension, so Mahito follows the bird through a tower and arrives in that other dimension in search of Natsuko (his aunt and stepmother) who had gone there while he was in a kind of trance. While there, Mahito meets many strange people and creatures, but it is all these experiences that will help him to evolve.
La película trata sobre un chico, Mahito que se muda junto a su padre y su tía (la hermana de su madre quien ahora es también su madrastra y está embarazada. Lo sé, es algo muy turbio pero en fin) Mahito se niega a ir a la escuela luego de sufrir Bullying, su padre lo descuida un poco ya que está manejando los asuntos de su empresa todo el día, mientras el niño se aburre en una casa llena de sirvientas ancianas. En una ocasión sigue los pasos de una garza que de pronto le habla revelándole que su madre aún estaba viva pero en otra dimensión, así que Mahito sigue al ave a través de una torre y llega a esa otra dimensión en busca de Natsuko (su tía y madrastra) que se había metido allí mientras estaba en una especie de trance. Estando en ese lugar Mahito conoce a muchas personas y criaturas extrañas, pero son todas esas experiencias las que le ayudarán a evolucionar.
My Opinion about the movie
Mi opinión de la película
It is one of the most enigmatic films I have seen, I like the symbolism it has and the depth it holds. The creatures and characters that Mahito encounters in this other dimension have a certain similarity with those that exist in his own world, but my favorites are the Wara Wara, they are tender creatures that inflate and float through the air, which reminded me of Disney's Soul, where similar creatures acted in the same way and were nothing more than souls of people who were about to be born.
Es una de las películas más enigmáticas que he visto, me gusta la simbología que tiene y la profundidad que guarda. Las criaturas y personajes que Mahito se encuentra en esa otra dimensión tienen cierta similitud con las que existen en su propio mundo, pero mis favoritas son los Wara Wara, son criaturas tiernas que se inflan y flotan por el aire, lo cual me recordó a Soul de Disney, donde unas criaturas parecidas actuaban de la misma forma y no eran más que almas de personas que estaban por nacer.
It is true that the narrative of the story could be a bit confusing, but the truth is that if you pay attention to the details it is easy to understand. Mahito's journey through that parallel world is an evolutionary process of self-evaluation in which he discovers his own weaknesses and defects, that is the reason why he rejects the tower master's offer to be his successor, because at that point he had already acquired the sense of responsibility enough to understand that to assume certain power he had to renounce resentment or any other negative feeling.
Es cierto que la narrativa de la historia podría resultar un poco confusa, pero la verdad es que si prestas atención a los detalles es fácil comprenderla. La travesía de Mahito a través de ese mundo paralelo es un proceso evolutivo de autoevaluación en el cual él descubre sus propias debilidades y defectos, esa es la razón por la cuál rechaza el ofrecimiento del maestro de la torre para ser su sucesor, porque llegado a ese punto ya había adquirido el sentido de responsabilidad suficiente como para entender que para asumir cierto poder debía renunciar al rencor o a cualquier otro sentimiento negativo.
I perceived the film as a reflection on the grieving process and the importance of finding inner peace and acceptance after a loss. On the other hand I think we could consider that in a way this is an autobiographical story for Hayao Mayazaki in which he reflects his own feelings, in this way he feels that he must leave his legacy in the hands of someone, but that person must understand very well the concept and the importance of his wonderful work (the handling of emotions, the transmission of feelings and the love for his work).
Yo percibí que la película es una reflexión sobre el proceso de duelo y la importancia de encontrar la paz interior y la aceptación tras una pérdida. Por otra parte creo que podríamos considerar que de cierta manera esta es una historia autobiográfica para Hayao Mayazaki en el cual refleja sus propios sentimientos, de esta manera siente que debe dejar su legado en manos de alguien, pero esa persona debe entender muy bien el concepto y la importancia de su maravilloso trabajo (el manejo de emociones, la transmisión de sentimiento y el amor por su trabajo)
As I have said on other occasions, I don't usually watch animated films, but I must confess that I do when something catches my attention, and after seeing on networks the controversy with the girl who lied about having worked on this film, I got curious, which led me to continue researching about the film and finally watch it. It was a great decision. Thank you very much for your attention.
Como he dicho en otras oportunidades, no suelo ver cine animado, pero debo confesar que lo hago cuando algo me llama la atención, y luego de ver por redes el asunto de la polémica con la muchacha que mintió acerca de haber trabajado en esta película, me dio curiosidad, lo cual me llevó a seguir investigando sobre la película y finalmente verla. Fue un gran acierto. Muchas gracias por su atención.
