Yesterday, after finishing work, I went to my uncle's house to take him some medicine; he lives near the elevated bridge. After spending some time with him and making sure everything was in order, I decided to return home via the Vía Blanca, a route that always offers me views that move me.
That stretch, which crosses the elevated bridge and leads to the Plaza de la Revolución, has something special about it. From there, you can see the country's most important railroad tracks, those that connect Havana with the rest of the provinces. I like to observe them: they are arteries that pulse in the sun, carrying stories, encounters, and farewells. Next to them stand the ruins of Tallapiedra, Cuba's first thermoelectric plant. Although it no longer operates, its large cylinders remain, imposing, as witnesses to an industrial Havana of the last century.

Aunque ya no funciona, sus grandes cilindros siguen ahí, imponentes, como testigos de una Habana industrial del siglo pasado.
Further on, we take the street that borders the large Cuatro Caminos market, restored a few years ago. Its name is no coincidence; at this point, Monte, Cristina, Matadero, and Arroyo streets converge, forming an emblematic intersection between Old Havana and El Cerro. Although it was officially called the General Market of Supplies and Single Consumption, Havana residents affectionately christened it "Cuatro Caminos" (Four Ways) because it was a meeting point, a transit point, a hub for life. And it remains that name to this day.
Más adelante tomamos la calle que bordea el gran mercado de Cuatro Caminos, restaurado hace unos años. Su nombre no es casual, en ese punto convergen convergen las calles Monte, Cristina, Matadero y Arroyo, formando un cruce emblemático entre Habana Vieja y El Cerro. We continue along this avenue until we reach Revolution Square. I love that path. The view opens up like a curtain: the Martí monument, its viewing platform, the Ministry of the Interior, the trees lining the esplanade, hiding the National Theater... everything seems ready to welcome us with solemnity and beauty. I live very close to there, and every time I pass by this spot, I feel the city embrace me, reminding me that I am part of it.
Seguimos por esa avenida hasta llegar a la Plaza de la Revolución. Adoro ese camino. La vista se abre como un telón: el monumento a Martí, su mirador, el Ministerio del Interior, los árboles que bordean la explanada ocultando el Teatro Nacional… todo parece dispuesto para recibirnos con solemnidad y belleza. Vivo muy cerca de allí, y cada vez que paso por este punto siento que la ciudad me abraza, que me recuerda que soy parte de ella.
