On a hillside looking down on the town of Shamakhi, it's "ancient" mosque towering above everything else; I am at the Yeddi Gumbaz Mausoleum Complex

originally a collection of seven stone tombs. Built in the mid 19th century over the graves of the leaders of the ancient Shemakhan khans. However, two devastating earthquakes, caused the collapse of four and now just three remain intact.

In addition to the mausoleums of the cemetery has a number of ancient gravestones, some over a thousand years old bearing traces of Arabic script.

Inside, each mausoleum contains 3 to 4 graves adorned with massive gravestones.

Although there has been significant restoration to the tomb walls , the head stones are in their original state.

Oh and two recent residents Mr and Mrs Rustamov
