Trust no one with your details!!

in Hive Learnerslast year (edited)

Ever been called by hackers? Well, if you haven't and you are based in my nation, please count yourself lucky but what I do know, is everyone must have been contacted by scammers in one way or the other.

Recently someone chatted me up and told me, my elder brother was at the hospital receiving treatment, I was shocked cause if such a thing happened my sister would've called me and told me about it instead of a total stranger chatting me up to break such a news.

After getting the information I called my sister immediately to confirm how true the information provided was, and then she told me that my brother was fine, I became calm then I went further in chatting with the scammers, I pretended like I didn't know what was going on after the conversation went on for a while then the scammer said, I should send some money to the hospital to enable the doctors began treatment on my brother.

I agreed to it and asked for the hospital's account details, so I could forward the hospital bill, immediately he sent personal account details, and at that moment I became confused, then I reminded him that I needed the hospital's account details and what he forwarded wasn't bearing a hospital's name then he said "the hospital hasn't opened a corporate account yet" after hearing that, I screamed from my lungs and told him "oga try rest", that was one funny experience I had.

Now back to the question: I haven't fallen victim to being scammed which I almost fell but then they said "Nearly cannot kill a bird" so I escaped.

But my loved one fell victim to being scammed, which happened last year, I think it was in the late part of last year, on a weekend precisely when my aunty called me that someone was sending a parcel to her husband from the US when I first heard it I asked: "Does your husband know this person?" Her reply was "Well, my husband met this person on Facebook and they have been chatting for a while, so they've grown to be friends" I continued "Grown to be friends online? Then she said "Yes".

Then the so-called friend of my aunty's husband called her that he would send her a link that contained a form to fill out to identify the parcel, when he sent the link, my aunty clicked on it and started filling out the form, it got to a part where they asked of her ATM card numbers, at that point, I tried to convince her not to fill out that particular data but then her husband asked her to continue in filling out the form.

Well, I couldn't say a thing again since her husband asked her to continue, after inserting the ATM card numbers and her private PIN, within five seconds she had started receiving debit alerts, the alerts didn't stop there, they continued coming like every second. Before she realized it, all her funds were gone just like the flash of an eye, unfortunately, she couldn't go to the bank because it was on a weekend.

But what we did at that moment, was call the bank's customer contact and inform them of what was going on so they blocked her account.

That whole experience that I witnessed, it taught me to be careful of the kind of person I call friends online, I know we can make friends anywhere but then someone you haven't met before says he sent you a parcel and asked you to fill out a form that requested for your debit card details and you weren't well convinced that it was a scam. I learned to trust no one with my debit card details especially online.

Thanks for reading🌹

That was one funny experience 🤣🤣, these scammers don't know people are smart and vigilant now 😂. The guy is a beginner I guess😂...

I feel so bad for your aunt, one has to be very careful with their personal data

Yeah!!!! I think so too, cause the whole thing was funny 🤣🤣🤣🤣. My aunty has learned and I'm glad she did

Honestly one has to be extremely careful as to who they trust as no one is to be trusted again.

When I experienced same it was as a result of familiarity the person had access to my details and carried out their evil plot.

Wow, that must have been harsh for you😔

My Dr it wasn't easy but thank God its over now 😊

My nation and scammers, lol. That scammer that chatted you must be a comedian for coming with that lie of their hospital not having a corporate account yet😂 He was hungry. We just need to be more careful because the scammers seems to increase daily.

He was very hungry and didn't know how to go about it, maybe I would have given him food who knows 🤣

I like the fact that youh played along woth the scammer's game. Your aunt's husband trusted a wrong person, his trust was because he had been speaking with the scammer for long. It's a normal way for scammers to have a very long chat with targets till he/she earns the target's trust and introduce his
/her own offer which is the real reason why they have been chatting with the target.

That's just one out of many crazy experiences from hackers and scammers.

Yeah!!! And that scammers even made him feel comfortable, that's the bad part!! But glad they've all learned their lesson though it was the hard way but then they've learned that's the most important thing.
