Does being born in the twenty-first century make you smarter? This is one question that has been popping in my head the moment I saw this topic. I'm gonna start by saying no generation is stagnant when it comes to growth because they say the only thing that is constant in life is what? "Change," and it has to do with the term "growth." This can also be positive or negative.
Every generation is known for a thing or more and each one that comes entails something different from the former, so that means there is always a new innovation. In the olden days, when there was no phone, long-distance communication was done through letter writing; these letters sometimes took time to get to their final destination because they passed through different procedures before getting to the owner.
When it comes to the knowledge aspect of it, they will have to go to libraries to acquire knowledge. Now imagine there is no library in a particular town, they'd be forced to travel to find the particular knowledge they want in another town. After a while phones (without the smart) were invented, thereby reducing the use of letters for long-distance communication. It also made information accessible because what you are seeking knowledge for, the next person is likely to have the idea of that thing.
Finally, smartphones were invented, and then there came the social media entities, which made the whole thing sweeter; being able to access the internet was like a certain level of breakthrough that came to mankind. That's to say that "in every generation, new information is being added to what is already known,' and that is the growth I'm talking about.
Now I can proudly say that this generation possesses a lot of knowledge, a combination of the past and the present and that leads to us being "more knowledgeable" in this present day, we can find information at our fingertips, there is no point in searching for libraries to study, currently, there are different libraries in the internet filled with materials of different kind.
In today's world information is easily accessible to the point that it can even get to your doorstep. From the comfort of your home, you know what is happening in the world, and that means " you are always informed," so if they say run, you'd be able to run without slacking behind and waiting for someone to come and tell you that ''people are running o".
You can say the advantage we are enjoying today is due to the advancement of technology, which has brought ease to our lives. The extravagant amount of information that has become instantly available. Technology has made it possible for peers to connect with people of sane interest easily, unlike back in the days when many opportunities were limited. People had to be in your geography territory before you could connect with them, or you had to wait till the day you went to college. In today's world, people connect easily and share interests and ideas together.
The level of exposure in this generation is another thing that makes this generation knowledgeable; back in the day, people lived their whole lives without being exposed to certain things. Every individual did everything in the same pattern; those who yearned to do things differently were seen as taking a huge risk, and others were likely to see such as an abomination as well. But in today's world, "difference is the key," being different from the crowd doesn't hurt. Currently, taking risks is also known as "courage."
In conclusion: this generation is smarter than the former because of the knowledge that has been passed, and also the advancement of technology making life easy for this generation. I feel the next generation is even gonna be smarter than this current one because of the knowledge that lies ahead.
