I can remember growing up, Mum had this long-distance relative who lived in the village and wanted my siblings and me to come spend the holiday with her. Mum, on the other hand, had been procrastinating till one fateful day. This lady came to our house and was like, "I'm here to pick them up." At this point, Mum couldn't say no, and there was no excuse to give.
So I excitedly packed my bags and headed to the door and was ready to move. We got to my aunt's place, and the whole place was kind of different from what I was expecting though, but I was really thrilled because of the new experience that awaited me.
We stayed for some days and had a lot of fun activities, so one day, our aunt wanted to go to the farm. When I told her I was gonna tag along, she didn't say no to me because I had those eyes that can't be resisted. So I followed her to the farm and saw how things were being done there. I watched her as she tilled the soil to insert a seed in it. I saw how grown some plants were and how she was harvesting those that were matured and ready to be harvested.
The whole process looked difficult; those moments made me think about the hard work farmers engaged in getting those food items ready. The bending of the back and all that.
Back to the Topic: No doubt technology has made life a lot easier for us, and farmers aren't an exception to this. The process farmers go through to be able to cultivate those crops has changed. Currently, different machines have been innovated to carry out that process, thereby relieving farmers from that stress.
With the world today farmers don't need to go to the farm to till the soil to be able to know if the soil is healthy or not. Currently, machines are embedded with such functions as "Drones." Farming has been adequately easy, but then these machines that are used in carrying out these tasks, do they make our food nutritious or reverse the case?.
Recently my aunt and I went to the local market to purchase some fruit when we came across a banana, the banana looked very attractive, but the moment my aunt held the banana in her hands, she was like "They've used chemicals to ripen the banana" at that moment I became confused, I was like "how?" Then she said, hold it. Did you notice the peels look ripe, but when you hold it a bit tight, the banana is still strong inside?.
I experimented with my hands and noticed what she said was true. Now, that banana is likely to have lost the nutrients in it, thereby making it just a mere banana.
I believe everything that has a positive impact on humanity is likely to have a negative impact as well. I know with technology, there has been sufficient production of food, but then using technology often is gonna make our foods less nutritious. These days when you purchase something, the taste is always different from the previous, and now that is due to the use of technology in sourcing our food.
