Hi,
it's a nice topic to discus and my question would be what is respect?
Is it something we have been told to, to behave, a way to talk to elders or strangers?
And from which point comes this behavior and believe. Is it fear based or from a loving point of view?
In Europe many polite or respectful behavior is based on fear or hierarchy. You have to address your elder, because he/she is older and has more life experience. Not because their behavior. They are just older. But the elder can behave like they want. So where is the mutual respect?
Most of the younger generation (Z) don't care that much, they have to survive everyday. The social pressure, the school system, their elders, mix-culture and so on.. In survival mode there is no luxury to think twice if you behave in a respectful way.
So how do we build a bridge between those generations?
Certainly the older generation can set the example. By showing their love, compassion and understanding. When the younger generation notice this behavior they will adept and show their respect in the same way.
The same goes from the younger generation. Take your elder by the hand and show them what you are doing, how the world is changing, take them with you in your story.
This is one view I have on this topic :-)
Mostly it's about inviting each-other to slow down and share experiences.
I'm not always respectful either, but try my best to be so :-)
