A lot of Brazilian cuisine came from African roots, just like so much southern food in the US. I was reading up on some history yesterday from Peru and they freed the slaves after the revolution. Racial prejudice is a phenomenon world wide sadly. I have met people who hated me just because I'm American, I've met black people in the US in Philadelphia who absolutely hate all white people and won't do business with them or even talk to them. In China they put Muslims in retraining camps because they aren't Chinese enough. This world still has a lot of racism and I doubt it will ever end completely, and it's stupid is the real irony...

Slavery will undoubtedly always be part of human societies too, it exists in China and other nations under a different name, but it's the same thing. It's sad that any human thinks they can own another, but we live in a messed up world my friend. We are insulated from it to an extent living where we do!
