Somtime in 2018, I met some guys and we all became friends. I met them in the club and they came with their girls. They all seem to be very cool so we usually go out together and do all sorts of things. Then, I was always in Alausa. Alausa is a part of Lagos. Luckily for us, almost all of those guys have their cars so we never faced the stress of trying to order a ride or entering commercial buses. The guys do the driving.
Anytime we’re going out, there’s a particular car I like to enter and it’s one particular guy that drives it. One day, we all decided to go out and my enemy was so unfortunate to enter Ezeh’s car. Ezeh is a short man and a crazy driver. I’ve always heard but I had not experienced it since I had not entered his car before. I entered the car and the journey begun. At first, he was on a normal speed and I think that was because he just began to drive. Later, the speed was getting too much and myself and the other girls in the car were complaining that the speed was too much. We shouted but he didn’t listen.
When I realized that he would not listen to us at all, I began to pray, lol. I felt that was the best thing I could do to save myself. When we got to a point, a trailer was about to make a U-turn and to my surprise, Ezeh overtook the trailer and we began to shout. I felt the trailer was going to hit us and that was the end of it. I began to think about what I’d tell my parents or how they’d feel if I had died and they later realized that I was not even in school.
I was even thinking of telling Ezeh to park so I could alight from the car but it was midnight and I could not do that. Lagos van be very risky at night mostly because of the area boys.
When we got home, we all rushed to come out if the car because we felt Ezeh wanted to kill us and ever since then, we started to call him “Ezeh Ndi Ala”. Ezeh Ndi Ala means King of mad people in Igbo language. Isn’t he mad? Someone overtook a trailer and we all know that any small mistake may lead to death. Is it not madness to risk your life and the lives of other people in your car? Since then, I never entered his car again. Even if we were going out, I always make sure to enter another person’s car.
If the car experience was not crazy, I would not be praying. The last thing I could do was to shout but it was beyond shouting so I started praying serious prayers and wailing in the car. I laugh anytime I remember this because it is so funny to be wailing because of speed. Anyway, it was a wonderful experience and I’m glad that no lives were lost.
Ezeh Ndi Ala is still my friend but I have promised not to ever enter his car again. Well, he’s now in the United States and I hope we all can go out to chill again someday.
