That's the best volunteering work for me. We don't understand people but helping them would give us a glimpse of who they are. I'm glad your aunty used a technique on you to come help her, too. At least that gave you another understanding and how important it is to help people, not because of what you'd get in return but for that fact that you made them smile and happy. That's enough fulfilment for you already.
