Have you ever stopped to think about how your online behavior affects those around you?
Many people seems to get lost in the crowded space, resorting to all manners of wayward behaviours, like cyber bullying, attention mongers, illicit exposure of their body to gain views and likes, body shaming people, reckless exposure of their personal data and others.
I recently enter X (formerly twitter) and a feed suddenly appeared on my timeline of a young talented Nigerian singer: Temi, sharing her nudes on her X handle. It's was an unbelievable sight to me, this is because the young singer was already coming up as a rising star, only for her to just wake up one day and start revealing their private part online, I am pretty sure on of her friend must have pushed her into the desperate act, but all she never knows was that things don't always go your ways, the results of the stupidity was that she started loosing followers instead of gaining more, people begin to call her out. Sometimes we need to rethink our steps regardless of what we feel, online there are a lot of people that claims to know it all, the ones that Judge, the ones that gossips and the on that begs online and scams people.
In today's digital world, it's easier than ever to connect with others and share our thoughts and opinions. But with that comes the risk of forgetting the importance of maintaining decorum.
So let's talk about what a decorum is,
what is decorum? In a layman term, it's about showing respect, kindness, and good manners in our interactions with others – both online and offline.
This is what the internet is missing, there is no Decorum.
But Why Does Decorum Matter?
The following are the reason why Decorum is very important:
Professionalism: Whether you're communicating with colleagues, clients, or industry peers, maintaining decorum is crucial for projecting a professional image. Imagine using a swear word In the meeting, you can get fired by your boss.
Respect: Decorum shows respect for others' opinions, beliefs, and values – even if we disagree with them. Most of My country's youth are always very aggressive in the the various chats, this doesn't show respect.
Credibility: When we exhibit decorum online, we build trust and credibility with our audience. Genuine People would start following and account growth.
